Tinted tailights...best method to remove sticky residue

I've been wanting to fix my peeling tinted tailights for the longest time. I think I'm going to try and remove the film instead of buying new ones even though it might take some elbow grease to get the sticky residue off.

But i'm curious, whats the best adhesive remover for this job? The tailights are a 17 mil thick 3M tint, so its pretty sticky stuff. I don't want to to be so strong that it starts peeling or clouds the actual tail light lense itself though.

Any products on the market made for doing this type of job?

what's that 3M eraser wheel? a thing that attaches to a 18v cordless drill? seems like it'd be the easiest of all you listed

i'd stay away from the nail polish remover. acetone tends to mess up plastic.

get some 3m general purpose adhesive remover. that is of course after you have peeled the film off. later.

rubbing alcohol would work but after a while it can rub into the taillights and would also take a while the alcohol breaks the adhesive down alittle bit but when you think it is done there might be alot residue left behind
