    ABS issues. Almost crashed tonight.

I need to bounce some ideas off of someone before I take this car back to the shop tomorrow.

    92 accord automatic

I had a rebuilt transmission put in march. They changed both axles. The other day I took it back because a few drops of transmission fluid was leaking from the drivers axle input.

They fixed it and said it was a defective axle that was the wrong size. I looked under there later and saw they only replaced the piece that goes into the transmission. So I degreased and sprayed with water so I can see if it leaks still.

    Symptom

If I go past 55 and either hold the gas or go faster for 13 or more seconds the ABS light turns on. Brakes feel fine. But now if I shut the car down and start it it goes away until I repeat the process.

If I go 50mph and slow down gradually to 20 or so I feel the pedal kick back in pulses, 2 quick pulses then after a second 2 quick pulses. I AM NOT SLAMMING on the brakes. Just slowing down (getting off of the freeway).

Now if accelerate to 65 or 70 with ABS light off and I press the brakes (regardless of pressure) it jerks ULTRA HARD to the right, almost gave me a heart attack! Then the ABS light turns on.

If im in the city driving, pressing the brake with the ABS light off I get no PULL at all. If I press hard no pull, if I slam on the brakes no pull...only past 65.

    Thoughts
So if it was the caliper, id get a pull almost everytime I hit the brakes-not the caliper

If it was the axle being bad, the ABS light out of came on right away-so not the axle

Tires are the same size, never did it before today.

    So what the hell?

What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

Have you pulled the ABS code?

    (same as checking a CEL)

I didn't know that. I always had a 91 and never had a 92. So when i do it will the ABS light blink?

Now i feel like a noobie

But let me warn you ahead of time that the ABS codes are different then CEL codes

The abs light will link a set of numbers, pause for 2 seconds and then blink more numbers

DO NOT ADD THESE NUMBERS UP

you're code will be the first number - the second number

        example

4 blinks, wait 2 seconds and then 3 blinks

Your code is 4-3 NOT 7

After the code is complete you will wait 6 seconds for the next code to display itself

Anyways to me it sounds like there is a problem with either the sensor itself or the new tone ring on the axle.

Its late but IM going outside to do it.

The thing is is that i don't think they fixed that side this time....and why does it affect my braking.

            Here is my code.

            ************************************************** ***
            Code 3-2

            Diagnosis: Left-front Pulser
The ABS indicator light is turned on when the wheel sensor signal is periodically missing during driving.

            Diagnostic Period: Regular

            Probable Cause:
            1. Chipped pulser gear
            2. Improperly installed wheel sensor

Probable Cause When Symptom Does Not Reappear:
            1. Intermittent interruption in the wheel sensor

            Refer to page 19-85

            ************************************************** *****

So its probably something they did. Cause that was the axle they were on. But it doesnt explain the brake issue. To bad its late here, I dont want to lift the car at this hour.

Kind of sounds like whatever axle they put in has the wrong tone ring like Tippey mentioned if this started happening after the new axles were put in.

I would check to see if the ABS sensor was damaged when they did that axle swap.

Both axles are new but they repaired the left one recently. But i don't get why its pulling towards the right

I just thought about something. If it pulled hard to the right, its possible that the drivers side wasn't braking. I remember i didn't feel squat fro that side and just a strong bite from the passenger side.

And since the drivers side is the one that is throwing the code it may just be that....

                    Any ideas?

That's exactly what we're trying to say. If the tone ring is wrong, the system may be thinking the left wheel is slipping since it's pulsing at a different rate compared to the other 3 wheels causing that one corner to not bite.

The reason you are getting pulling to the right is probably this

The ABS thinks the front left wheel is locking up so it is pulsing it, this the left wheel is not really braking as much as the right wheel thus it goes to the right.

Just got back from the shop. Everything checked out fine. He wants me to drop it off Monday so i don't have to wait.

What are the chances that the caliper is faulty? And faulted when they did the work on the opposite side.... Cause now i feel a pull on braking at higher speeds? The pedal doesn't pulsate like crazy, just feel a few taps. But now even as i cruise it pulls to the right without braking.

If the tone ring was bad or wrong from the others, wouldn't the ABS computer pick that up right away?

                            So no one knows?

Fine, can a wrong axle do this? Or would that set off the ABS light immediately?

If i accelerate hard the steering wheel tilts right away towards the right side. If it was the caliper it would have to be grabbing super hard to do that at full throttle right?
