    Possible VSS issues

Yes mods, I reposted this in a new section, beginners were reading and not posting. So its here in the big boys section.

So after my camping incident... my speedo doesn't work correctly most of the time. Usually its either 10/15 mph under the actual speed, or it bounces between 30-40 mph when im going that speed. And now its just sitting at 20mph unless Im going over 50 and then it goes higher. Now normally I would immediately assume the VSS, but as soon as I turn the car just on, not started, the speedo kicks up to 10. I went and pulled the plug from the vss and nothing changed???? Any idea what this could be, I'm stumped.

change the vss first if that dosent work change the speedo clock in the dash...beter yet chage the hole cluster cause thats what controles the signals from the vss..but start with vss

I was looking to change the VSS but I was wondering why when I pull the plug I get no change in the RPM's and I get no CEL...

Might be because your computer cannot read the CEL of the faulty VSS. You can pull off VSS sensors of hondas at the junkyard. Also don't forget to take the little screw like that goes inside the VSS sensor.

Guess I'll have to go get one from the jy this weekend and swap it out.

Fixed, I was drunk when I posted this, probably high too. Yeah the tach works just fine, the speedo is the one with issues.

Anyone??? Now it just does whatever it wants, rarely works, sometimes ill be at freeway speeds and it will show 100. Im stumped, that only thing I havent done is replace the VSS. Still stumped that if its out why I wont get a code or when I unplug the VSS the mphs dont drop to zero.

Take the cluster out and look for burnt solder joints.

What section of the cluster should I be looking for the burnt joints? This issues is just strange because it was working fine until I got a hole in my oil pan and lost all the oil for about 2 days. Fixed the oil pan, fired it up and my speedo was jacked up. Very frustrated

Is your odometee working properly? If so, I would think it's an issue with the cluster....

Yes odometer and trip meter are working fine. I've heard that when the VSS goes out the trip and odometer stop working...

ok, it makes sense. I was driving for 2 hours on a dirt road full of bumps, so I could have easily jostled some connections or solder points loose. Thanks guys, I'll be going and getting one from the JY. Are there are direct plug and play upgrades for our cars? I know I can swap a BB6 in, but I dont wanna rewire, and I dont have a H. I have a 92 LX, thanks in advance.
