Wed3k tell me where your going with this. I want to learn more. Of course the engine isnt stopped, that is where my thoughts are turned to. If I accelerate the engine and the noise continues i'm thinking its the engine not the tranny obviously. I thought if the throw out bearing is depressed it doesnt turn which makes me conclude it isnt the TO bearing. I want to understand more thoroughly please

I have absolutely no idea what it is but to put it plainly if it stops when you press in the clutch and comes back when you let off.... It has nothing to do with the motor.

yeah ok I understand that. you guys aren't going to believe this, I pulled the tranny off with the engine in and replace the t.o. bearing it's still making the noise! it's only stops with the clutch is press in half way. this sucks

It's gotta be the clutch itself or the flywheel maybe. I noise had started in a different car, and I thought it was the tranny so Ipulled the engine and mated it to a new tranny and noise continued. So not tranny but like you guys have been saying it cant be engine related if it stops when i use the clutch. When i replaced the t.o. bearing I just pulled the tranny enough to make room to put a new t.o. in so i didnt check my clutch or flywheel. Freaking frustrated for cutting corners. I guess all I can do is pull it again, this time lowering it out of the way and replacing the clutch and flywheel.

is it necessary to drain the tranny fluid before removing it? i plan on changing the release bearing myself.

yeah they say it'll leak out but I'm not sure if that's true. I just drained it to be sure. I did the job myself with a lift. I couldn't wiggle it out the bottom, so if you plan on changing the clutch (recommended) Id say remove that brace underneath. to drop the whole thing. Im gonna get after it again after class this week.
