Play in the differential?

So, with the right wheel off the ground and the left wheel on the ground I can wiggle the right wheel about an inch or so at the edge of the rim. Rotating front/back that is.

Is that a normal amount of play in the transaxle?

In facing the wheel, you are pushing the edge of the rim inward (towards transaxle) and outward (towards yourself) and you notice play of an inch (tilting or horizontal sliding movement??)....please clarify

Grab the wheel like a stering wheel and rotate it. Not pushing in.

word on that. my steering wheel has play. and i know something is messed up because i took this turn ..yes norm speed...but there was this like loud bang sound and the steering wheel jerked, like i ran over a huge rock but i didnt feel the car go up or anything.

so the next day im driving and its handling weird. like i have to have the steering wheel more to one side than the other when going straight.. but the alignment is still ok from what i can tell

well today as i was driving around the steering wheel randomly had no play in it what so ever.. then two seconds later it was broke again. lol. so if anyone has any ideas on what this could be i would greatly appreciate the advice. ive had so many problems with this car and the thing is it never breaks when i dog it...only cursing normally.

check your tierod ends and upper and lower balljoints for any cracks or grease seepage coming out of them that looks fresh.

As for the original question, thats normal. There is going to be some play in the transmission when one wheel is on the ground. Its just the slack in the gears when you move it clockwise/counterclockwise......OR it could be your CV joints wearing out if they're really old.

fixed it. something with my stering joints or collum was stripped. but ya all good solid now.
