Hey Everyone,
92 EX - had the A/C fail. Shop diagnosed it as a bad compressor so went and did the new compressor/R-134A conversion kit. Damn, it was a lot more work than I thought it would be to swap over to the new refrigerant
By the way, to do it properly you have to tear into EVERY coupling in the entire system and replace every o-ring you can find. Not only that but you have to dig into the dash to get at the heat transfer coil area and tear out the old thermostat and replace it with a new one from the kit. Evidently the new refrigerant does not work as well as the old R-12 (damned ozone layer anyway
) so you need to replace it too.
Went through it all and now my compressor clutch won't engage - kept the old one to save a few bucks but it appeared to be working fine. I applied +12V (wth the motor off) directly to the clutch and it sounds great and I verified that the system is NOT sending +12V to the compressor when the switch is closed. I wanted to find and verify my clutch relay but my manual doesn't mention (at least as far as I can find) exactly where the infamous clutch relay resides. I did see the thread that mentions that you must have a minimum amount of prssure in the system for the compressor to be allowed to operate and if that's the case then there must be a pressure switch somewhere in the system but my schematics don't show it.
Sooo, the questions are these: does the system have a pressure sensor/switch and where the hell is the A/C compressor relay?
