change the oil in tranny, gm/Pennzoil syncromesh is good, or oem honda manual tranny fluid
So far I've used Amsoil MTF(great year round), and Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 it works AWESOME once everything is hot, not so good when cold- definately a summer only thing.
You can use engine oils in there as well but they MUST contain ZINC at no less than 1000 PPM.
There's really nothing you can do to completely fix it, parts are worn out and will eventually get worse and you'll start popping out of gear. Depending upon how long you've been grinding, you may need a new sleeve set for the gear or if its more recent, just a syncro.
But a lot of temporary fixes which some people have tried that had success is GM Syncromesh Friction Modified. It didn't help my 5th gear grind at all though, so it works sometimes if the gear is barely starting to grind, mine was too far gone.
I ended up having to replace the 5th gear sleeve since it was so chewed up, but good news is it comes with a syncro and syncro spring.

this.
If it does it every shift, then most definitely will have to repair. If its just occasional then fluid will help but its still showing signs of wear on 3rd and not other gears.
Scrounge the junk yards if need be..
Nothing feels better than a fully rebuilt honda transmission though.
Best chance for MTF helping out is GM Synchromesh w/friction modifier or the AC Delco equivalent. If the damage is bad enough, it will only get worse though or you may get lucky and maintain where it is now with better fluid.
I've done comparison between Torco MTF, Honda MTF and the MTF mentioned above. I've become a fan of the GM/AC Delco MTF.

exactly, I'm loving my rebuilt M2B4. Put new mainshaft and countershaft bearings along with a 5th gear sleeve set and swapped the gear to an F22 for better highway mileage and it shifts like BUTTA.

You know synchromesh(everyones says "friction modified" but its ALL that, the difference is between the synchromesh and the MTF that GM/Pennzoil sells), be it pennzoil, GM's ACdelco's are all the same and they are also refined from Group III oils. I find it funny now that AC Delco sells it too.
Redline(group V and Amsoil(group IV) also produce MTF products where synchromesh formulations are needed(or better suited). This is why I chose the motorcycle oil that Mobil 1 makes, as it is made for "wet clutch" and transmissions. whats that tell you? it lubricates and has the "grab" that allow synchros to work more effectively not only that but Mobil 1 has a PDS that lists its zinc content.
I measure a fluid not by 2nd 3rd and so on shifts but how easily I can get it into 1st gear at speeds above 20mph, which is a LOT of work for a syncho to do. So far the Mobil1 racing 4t is the best AFTER its warmed up real good. For all around Id have to say Amsoil has it beat- but then again its also a completely different viscosity(5w30 VS 10W40)
If I was turbocharged running more than 250 WHP id be running the 50weight Vtwin formulation in the summer and the 40W 4t in the winter.
