Finding meaning of CEL codes off OBD2 scanner??

So ive been wondering this for a while now and didnt know if i should post this in the off topic but per say i was to purchase a Cheapie OBD2 scanner off amazon or something. When i hooked it up to several diffrent cars, how would or where could i go to findout what each CEL code means for every diffrent car?? Is there a book or website where i could search each CEL code?? I know, kind of a dumb question but ive been wondering. Thanks guys!!!

    google and common sense.

p0420 catalyst inefficient. a lot of people will blame the rear o2 but theres a code for the rear o2 so why would it be a problem? the o2 is just doing its job...blame the cat.
    I <3 G60.

      How cheap?

They range in price from $80 to $1500. Ive seen even the cheap ones give you SOME info as to what the code pertains to.

Yeah why would you buy a code reader when you have one in your couch somewhere. But for OBD2 you need one.

^ you know now that i think of it. this shit is way better than obd for getting codes.

$80 for a scanner or 1 cent for a paperclip?
