    Auto trans problems

My friend's car was having problems the other day. It wouldn't shift into reverse a few times. Earlier today, it was making a whining sound, and it eventually cut out on the highway. She let it sit for a while, and eventually made it home. Now it won't even back out of the driveway. It acts like it's not gripping (shift into gear and the engine will rev but no motion). It sounds pretty bad, but I'm wondering what you guys think it could be (and perhaps how much it'll cost to fix)

Well, I heard that if the trans is blown, then the fluid should be a dark black. I pulled the dip stick out and it looked pretty clean (and at the right level). Also, when the motor's idling (in park), it still makes this whining sound, and there's a lot of vibration (more than normal)

If I had to pick one, I'd say torque converter. Hopefully it's nothing more expensive. Anyone know where to find either an OEM one (95 Buick Regal) or a nice performance one for not much more?

the winning sound might be something else but as for the fluid being black if its blown then thats incorrect...its just old fluid that would look lke that.

maybe you can just drain and fill some fluid in there to see if that does anything, but most likely the torque converter is gone.
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

knowing american cars. if they don't go in reverse then the tranny is gone. happen to my friends 96 pointiac. he took it to the shop and they rebuild the trany<<<< or they just changed the torque convertor and charged his ass for 800. lmao
              as for the fluid
if u see a dark fluid then maybe its old fluid.
but look it more carefully and if u see like two fluids together like bright and dark colour(like u add water and oil) then most likely its a blown tranny.
