    power steering pump regurgitating fluid

It seems my power steering pump likes to push fluid out of the res. And for some reason the res is still full when this happens. It is not overfilled btw.

The pump maybe sucking air along with PS fluid making fluid aerated and increasing in volume as the pump is working, circulating fluid.

I had this issue on my Civic last year. PS fluid over flowed out of reservoir. Replaced hose and is working fine.

I've never had the issue on my Accord but certain model year of Accord or other Hondas are known to have such issue with PS system, IIRC. I could be wrong, but worth while to check the condition of inlet side of pump.

Lift the reservoir and look for obvious damage on hoses.

If air is getting into the system during operation, there's chance the fluid is leaking out from the same place. You may see wetness due to that leak there.

Or the reservoir screen is clogged. Take the reservoir off and check the screen, clean it with brake fluid. See if that helps.

ok i will try that to. I just checked the res after a little drive and there are lots of tiny bubbles in it but as far as i can tell there are no leaks from the hoses that connect to it. any other thoughts?

Here you go bud. It's the reservoir or your pump is toast. You could rebuild it. Flush your fluid.

The pump on rebuild thread is vane type pump.
What we have is external gear pump.

Both do the same job so no biggie.

Mine was not clogged but I replaced the fluid by not taking off the return hose but I did it like the tranny. Take the fluid out of the reservoir completely until I could see that round little screen on the bottom, then fill it up again. I would say half a bottle will fill the reservoir. I cannot remember now. Then I fill with new fluid. I jacked the front end up, run the engine, turn the wheel all the way to each side 3X. Turn off the engine, then draw fluid out, then in new fluid. I did it about 5 times. I used about 3 bottles. That's about 80% new fluid when I did it. Remember the fluid looks real clear but once it's in the reservoir it turns yellow. So it does not mean you have all old fluid in there after doing it the 5th time. You are never going to get clear fluid as it turns yellow exposing to air.
I bought 5 bottle totally, but used 3.

The manual says 1.9 US qt for fluid replacement.

For reservoir cleaning, I don't think you'll need that much. If you collect fluid from reservoir before the work, you shouldn't need that much to add.
