    Fuel pump dying?

Okay, so today when i went to go start my car it took a little longer then usual to start but after about 10 cranks it fired and no problem one. I then headed on my 37 mile trip home with no issues really whatsoever.. Until about the last 6 miles i just all the sudden lost power and the engine would not rev... If i gave it gas it would sputter and choke but wouldn't die.. just go back to an idle and not really rev at all.. I originally thought i just ran outta gas like a complete idiot and called a buddy to come bail my ass out.. Well as im waiting i go to see if it will idle still and she fired right up with no issues and i drove to the closest gas station..

Thing is.. Is i did put in just under 16 gallons... I know the fuel light is suppose to be on around 14.7 or something like that (light was not on, has always worked before however)

So was it just supper low on gas or is my pump going out?

After i fueled it up it had all the power it usually does and would rev to redline and all that no issue (was trying to see if it would cut out again)

Thanks guys for all the help. I just wanna make sure i dont get stranded on the side of the road driving 72 miles a day..

You put in 16 gal? Sounds like you were out of gas. Its a 17 gal tank

changed the fuel filter...ever? next step is borrow or rent a fuel pressure tester and take a reading from off the rail. I believe there are also FPT's that allow you to have the gauge in the car while test driving as sitting idle may not induce the problem. as for your low fuel lite the sender might be attached to the pump but has nothing to do with its function, its basically a metal wire arm with a foam floater attached to it that in turn moves a variable resistor, changing the fuel needle and triggering the low fuel light.

running it low on gas can fry a pump considering fuel is used to cool the pump. try changing the filter as well, it's one of the overlooked things in terms of maintenance.

I know about the light not affecting the actual pump itsself, i was just kinda throwing it out there saying thats why i let it get so low.

And after i filled it up i figured it was MOST likely just out of gas.. But it was also weird to me that it would idle no issue at all.

Just wanted someone smarter to me to tell me that it was just out of gas..

And i need to replace the filter i know.. Been one thing at a time with this car.. Haha.

I ran my car out of gas twice. once on purpose and once by accident. both time it would idle fine. like there was plenty of gas in it. but when i go to rev it or take off from park it would sputter, pop, and die
