    Electrical Load Detector (ELD) replacement.

    Hello every one,
I am suspecting my ELD is going bad. My alternator which used to be at 14.6V and 14.3V with load and recently it's been running around 14V-14.15V. The alternator has been serviced by me, when I replaced the brushes and the regulator less than 2 years ago. However, my battery still charging, but my idle has been dropping ever slightly to 700rpm and steady b/w 700-750rpm. I am suspecting vacuum leak but wouldn't it fluctuate with a leak? The vacuum I will post on a new thread as I need the diagram and size of the tubes.
Now my battery which was bought on Jan. 2011 from Costco is still good. The morning voltage is around 12.3V and after charged it's 12.6-12.7V. After I run the car for a bit, the voltage for the battery is on the higher end.
So when my alternator voltage goes down a little lately, I am wondering of 2 things:
    1) Would the cheap brush kit I bought from Ebay worn out that fast? The regulator came off an OEM used alternator. For the regulator, would any one works good or the quality does matter b/w Ebay and OEM?
    2) My ELD is going bad?

Now if my ELD is bad or going bad, wouldn't the CEL goes on for code 20?
Now if I want to replace my ELD, could I just buy the part or do I need to replace the whole fuse box under the hood? I saw on the newer Civics, they have a little plug under the 40A and 80A fuse. How about our CB7s?
If I have to replace the fuse box, I would get one used or from the junkyard but would I have to cut and splice those tiny wires going to the ELD? Or is it a plug on the other end? I have never seen the wiring for the ELD in details.

    Thanks.

i thought about the same thing, but unfortunately the eld is built in the fuse fox
no even dismembering the fusebox until you hit the conducting rods, you'll be able to take it out

also there is ways of testing it, i cant remember of the top of my head but i found the steps on google
eld units dont really go bad on our cars, of 7years of owning cb's last year i thought i had a eld problem and ended up being a dirty ground

Well, my ground points seem to be clean and good. I think the main ground points are that big wire below by the auto tranny. There's one on the side fender on the passenger's side. The battery ground is good. Where else of ground points should I check?
      Thanks.

my wifes car for some reason wont start w/o a ground from the starter case to the frame

this had me going paranoid for months, i had more than enough thick grounds
after 3 starters i tried a ground to starter and she started right up, this also fixed a hid flickering and other things

try doing a full load test on your alt, high beams wipers brake lights reverse lights and all windows down, after the windows go down keep holding the switch, windows consume the most amperage
        then check your voltage

in reality, you can rebuild your alternator many times, but windings get old and the bearings fuck up creating drag

i bought an alternator 2 years ago with lifetime warranty, i've yet to have a "alternator problem"

The starter has 2 cables normally going to it. How did you ground yours? I'll check the load. Probably take it to Autozone for a load test on it. Do they do load test or just checking the diodes?
          Thanks.

that's the link where I checked my ELD.

My problem was a little different. My voltage would go from 14 down to 12.6
But this is a function of the ELD.
Yes autozone can check the alt. They have checked all mine. I have a HO alt and they said it was bad, but it is still good. If you have a stock alt you should be fine with them checking it.

I assume all your grounds are good? That could cause a volt drop.

            Read through the thread

But I'm not sure that is our prob.

i replaced a eld on my friend's cb7 but he didn't have a charging problem. a lot of the interior lights and stuff went out. it was a couple years ago but i think it is a grey box that pulls out of the fuse box.
              I <3 G60.

0.5mm Oversized Stainless valves and bronze guides available. Pm me please.

So that seems like a separate that could be had at the jy. No need to replace the whole fuse box?
                Thanks.

Thanks. If you were a hot girl, I'll be all over you.
Other than that, what are the most common symptoms. I am not sure my ELD is bad. The car still run smooth but I think I'll give a IAVC a good clean with the throttle body, once again.
The rear motor mount might need replacing, would that cause my problems?
                    Thanks.

nah, it was purely electrical. mostly interior lights and stuff. i had to pry it out with a screwdriver and the wierd position that it is in makes it kind of a bitch

So it's on the bottom of the fuse box right? I need to turn it over? I took my fuse box off a few times but never turn it over when I put on my strut bar.
                        Thanks.

I'm pretty sure its in the interior fuse box unless I'm thinking of something different.

I think it's under that 3 skinny wires under the hood fuse box. Maybe you are thinking of some thing else if you are saying it's in the driver's side kick panel. Maybe you were thinking of the flashers relay or some thing else?

                            Thanks.
