Hey so a quick question I had my car converted to r134 and there are no leaks detected by the mechanics machine or his beeping probe is there a leading place anyone has ever encountered? System lasts cold for 2 weeks then nothing

So 20+ years like 3 F22 engine swaps and in the end there was a leak at the reciver/drier the silver thing on the driver side ... evap good compressor good but a little bronze bolt I guess was leaking the freon $400 later if it stays cool more than two weeks its fixed. I guess leaks can happen anywhere and from what I can tell its a ich

I do alot of A/C repairs as a diesel mechanic on big rigs. There are four ways to test for leaks. 1, use a sniffer. 2, Put system in a vacuum and check for drop. 3, charge system with nitrogen and spray with soapy water, look for the bubbles (my prefered method). 4, add dye to system and wait for stains or check with UV light. Some of the more tricky leaks ive come across are at the compressor seal and evaporator. Both which are easier to find with a sniffer. You want to be sure to spin the compressor clutch while checking for leaks, and make sure to get up in that evaporator core with the sniffers wand. Also make sure you have service port caps installed to prevent small leaks from the shraedar valves. If you want to save money in labor first have the tech vacuum test with his machine, takes 15 minutes. If test fails check with nitrogen, about 30 minutes. Find most leaks quickly with those steps."Brought to you by Carls Jr."

yeah I just found out my R12 system is leaking. I replaced all the O-rings I could see in the engine bay, put a can in and come to hear a hissing coming from the bottom of the AC compressor.
It wasn't too expensive, but still hearing 25 bucks I just spent on that can go up kinda sucks.
What is that port on the bottom of the compressor anyway? Nothing hooked up to it, it just kept bleeding the freon out from it and there was nothing I could do to stop it.

That port on the bottom of the compressor is is a blow off valve. If there is too much pressure or the compressor gets too hot it'll shoot out freon from there. It's self resesting meaning you should be able to recharge and be good to go. But If that happens you better check out why it did that.Long time listener, first time caller.
