    Automatic trans question

A co-worker has a 91 Accord with auto trans. and says the trans. works fine & he'll be crusin when suddenly the RPMs shoot way up, like it shifted gears without him doing anything.

Any idea what this could be? This is all I know from what he told me.

tranny fluid. check that. replace it. i had the same problem in my car, then i saw it was leaking tranny fluid. it had problems shifting, and at about 35mph it would junp up to about 4500 rpms, but when i put more fluid in it, its fine

could be your tcu, i had the same problem that turned into having it in drive or D4 and it would jump up and sometimes shift down a gear all on its own. I asked a shop what to do and they said the tranny was about to go, so for second opinion i went to honda and they replaced the TCU and it works like like knew. $100 bucks plus labor on used tcu. hope that helps bro.

yea im having that same problem right now except its not too extream enough to justify fixing it. While driving usally only while crusing sometime the converter will unlock and the rpms will jump up about 200-300 rpms more than they should. I also have a slow leak so if you just stay on top of the fluid levels all will be ok. Although i wish the damn thing would just stay locked and not randomly lock and unlock its frustrating. But for like $1000 cost to fix it ill pass.
