Was he low on oil before he ran the car or did it run out after. Because he's supposed to check the oil before he drives the car when the cars cool. Be sure to check what the cel is trying to tell you. He does know how to diagnose cells right?

Did the oil warning (red) light come on before the vehicle died? If so, the engine is probably toast.

This happened to me my oil livht didn't come on due to the sensorplug being off. When I was able to get home my car was bone dry.

Check the cel see what code pops up if he puts oil in it have make sure the oil sensor is working.

what he'll be looking for is to see the oil light flicker after top off if he does, either the rod bearings are done or oil pump is done or both.

I suggest adding oil and trying to start it again.

At worst its a dead engine anyway (only losing a small amount of oil and cash value).

At best it will work and you can still get around if only with advanced and accelerated wear on the pistons.

If any damage was to be done running an engine with little to no oil it has already occurred.

Make this a lesson to be more conscious of the oil and other things that makes the car run.

Its more of a hassle walking and borrowing a car. Easier to check and add oil (1 min max) than be faced with the hassle of asking whats wrong, parts to buy, buying parts, installing parts or even wasting time seeing prospective buyers.etc.(hours and hours if not days)

Driving a car carries responsibilities, not just on the road but also off the road if you want to continue enjoying the privilege of driving.
