    Surging idle while in park

Hey there I have a problem I have never seen happen.
    Spec's 1990 CB F22a4 391k

Car idled great until I had to replace the lower radiator hose. so I went ahead drained the anti-freeze replaced the lower radiator hose, the 2 transmission cooling line hoses, and installed a thermostat (which the car did not have one to begin with) re filled the coolant did a tranny drain and re fill put it all together and the problem started where the car surges and shake's horrably. so I attempted to to change the IACV ( the old one was caked black on the filter) no change. Cleaned out the FITV, New spark plugs the wires are new within 500 miles and still surges and hunts, Checked ALL the vac lines and nothing tried using compressed air to find any leaks, oh and I bleed the coolant. and after all that I tried to get on the freeway and got about 3 miles when the car just lost all power over 2500RPM. then last night it threw a CEL for the Map Sensor so im going to pull mine out of my car to see if that helps it. Though in gear it runs fine just like a champ 750 RPM just still have to shift early or you get no power between 1 and 2nd where it sounds just like if you were reving in park diffrence being is your moving.

Im going to work off the ENG:Erratic Idle Fix thread and hope something happens

well I think the engine is gone.....

Well I went back at this engine.
I checked and cleaned all parts of the plenum, Swapped my MAP with his, Checked all plugs and wires for spark, No CEL is thrown just put a new Denso O2 sensor in did my coolant deal new timing belt within 1,000 miles. went to try the pulling the spark plug wires while the engine running and 1 it tried to die same with 2,3 but 4 there was no change. I asked him if he did anything he said he put some stop smoke and the silver can of 4 Cyl restore engine. It keeps running bad as i stated now its becoming a hard start in which I had to adjust the idle screw all the way out. pulled #4 Plug and its black so my next idea till he has money for a crate engine is to put some thicker oil in like 10-40 till the end of the month? At the moment the engine keeps running at 1500 RPM but if I drop it to 1000 Rpm it tries to die. any way to keep it running safely till the end of the month would be preferable thanks

So you pulled the spark plug wires while it was running and the engine tried to die? Gee I wonder why

      Edit:
You are aware that while you pulled the plug wires the fuel system was still pumping right?

      Perhaps you should try this:

Proper grammar and coherent sentences will go a long way.

I understand that there was still fuel being injected into the cylinder and I was doing what I thought could be a way to check if the cylinders were working right. and I understand why I pulled one by one quickly just to see how the engine reacted to this

          Thrilling

I went ahead and changed the oil, Adjusted the valves last night and when I went back to start it all that happened was the starter * you can see the belts moving and see the engine moving through the timing hole*. So I checked for spark along all four cylinders they all checked out. you can hear the fuel rail when the car is turned to ACC II.. checked all fuses all check out. No Cel comes on battery voltage stayed at 12.53 and yes checked all grounding to the engine . So I guess im going to try a J.Y starter and see if the starter just crapped out on me... after this I don't know whats going to bring this car back to life.

mine used to do this went away for quite some time, one day really pushed the car very very very hard on a long straight..omg it was so funny... cause I was going along and some homie in a like an avalon or something; an old one, was getting onto the thoroughfare, i merged left and passed and went on my way. he sure tried to catch up hard..as I came back down to normal operating conditions he blew past me @ like abucktwenty..20 seconds later.. i went along and not shortly later he was off to the side, smoke billowing girlfriend snappin.
anyway after then now only has the surge returned, itll do it in P and N. so it needs a load on it.,my idles really low too like after completing a stop itll dip to like 300 rpm but come back to 689ish..heh

              Thats crazy....

Okay I can't figure out the problem on this car. A month ago the car ran like a champ got on the freeway and everything. Now Its dead as a door nail even manages to kill the battery with no lights on or anything... going to try and check out if the battery is holding a charge at all. If so im going after the ECU I have heard story's of the ECU killing batteries some how and it possibly could be the problem in the first place I don't know. Give me some feed back other wise I just wasted time with new oil and adjusting the valves tight.

did you check the radiator for leaks ?! .... did you try to rule out all optional vacuum hoses e.g. cap off the little maggot next to the FITV and the the vacuum to the cruise control ?!

always test the car with the basic vacuum connections, it help it me a lot ...as for the radiator keep the fans connected but loosen the bolts and see if the radiator has any leaks when the engine comes up at normal operating temp.

I tried a shot in the dark and put about a cap full of fuel into the cylinders it ran at 300 rpm for about 7 seconds then died again.... do our cars have to have a exact amount of fuel pressure because the fuel is going to the rail, the Spark is getting across all cylinders, and obiously the spark plugs are good and all checked out, I checked timming and it looks like its on track. the engine is moving and is laughing at me all vac hoses check out I just have the intake off at the moment. checked out the ECU and its fine. Its got to be something stupid that's keeping it from running. I checked the rad when I went to replace the lower rad hose and it looked fine
