    fuel gauge inop

So the fuel gauge is broken on the beater.

Is this basically a " you're screwed " problem as far as difficulty in fixing it? I imagine that either the gauge or whatever reader is inside the tank is broken.

Should I just keep the tank always topped off and call it good?

there's a light that will illuminate in red when you are low on fuel, it should get you 20 KM with that light, already tested it on my cb7 ... you should be OK !!

Change it when you have time, you don't have to worry for the time being

you can get to the fuel level sensor/float in the tank from inside the car, there is a access panel in the floor. I would start with seeing if its getting power. good luck
