Electric Short

I'm getting a short from somewhere around the gas pedal. First off I started the car today and when I pressed the gas the RPM gauge just dropped to zero and bounced back up, and the engine didn't get any gas as if I wasnt pressing the pedal. Next I started tapping the gas pedal, when I touch it from the back there is a metal box or something. Everytime I tap it my lights would flicker. Please Help!

The pedal doesn't have an electrical connector that I can remember. Are all of your wires intact? Pictures would help alot here.

Also, your igniter may be going out. Did your engine at stutter or do something when the pedal was pressed? Is your throttle cable broken?
