Anybody got any new tricks or tools to get a grip on that bulb retainer ring in order to turn it, or should I just loosen and move the cruise control to make some room?

That's exactly how I've always done it. Once you get it loose, it's not that difficult to do again, unless you go another few years without having to change a bulb.Originally posted by illinois_erik View Postlong shanked flat blade screwdriver and a couple of palm raps? .
I have since converted to an HID/projector setup, so those rings have been eliminated.

damn i wouldnt have figured you would have done hid's. a little dielectric or silicone grease on the rings and itll be easy peasy for quite a while.Originally posted by deevergote View PostThat's exactly how I've always done it. Oh the simple pleasures of owning a DX.
I'd pull all of the cruise control components out if I had a different trim setup though.
You'll strip some weight and open up a slot on your dash to mount a switch or gauge... With power and a fuse already wired to it.
It is really easy with it out of way, and you won't risk damaging it. Put the battery in the trunk and then both sides are easy. In case you're like me and experiment with many variations of cheap eBay bulbs.
RIP my last two CB7s.

Thanks for the ideas. Like every time that bulb burns out, I could only get fingertips in there. One time I used something from the kitchen to grab that ring and turn it, but I can't recall what it was. Anyway, it was too cold to fool with, so I took the cruise control off. You do have to pull the little vacuum hose off of it, but the screw closest to the firewall doesn't have to be completed removed in order to lay that cruise control unit aside to get a straight shot at that retainer ring. I almost think Honda had that bulb in mind when they designed the bracket for the cruise control unit. Anyway, new bulb in. Same dilemma next time.

I don't use cruise control much, but I like having it. It comes in handy on long highway trips and on sections of road where exceeding the speed limit will almost certainly result in a speeding ticket. Yeah, it is easy to replace that bulb with the cc out of the way. Fortunately, that bulb only burns out every few years.
