    Transmission noise

Hello fellow CB 7 Tuners, I have a 91 accord 5 speed, I did an engine swap and when i had the engine out i changed the whole clutch assembly out. The thrust bearing, clutch pak and the pressure plate, and filled it back up with what the haynes and chilton repair manuals said 10w-30 motor oil. After all the engine had 400,000 miles on it. Now when i ride down the road i hear what sounds like the gears when i push in the clutch it goes away. Does anyone know that that is or why it is making that noise? And if possible a fix for the problem Any suggestions or ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks In Advance.

Well i used to have an 89 accord with a 5 speed, and its cv axle seals leaked pretty bad, i was having to top off the oil in the tranny every 1.5 months, and i could tell by the noise of the tranny when it was low, so maybe thats whats going on with yours? When you changed the oil, you did it with the car in a level position, and added oil until it came out past the threads of the bottom of the fill hole right?

Yes it was level when I filed it up. I changed the cv axle after the swap. Still has noise

So, the transmission is the same as before the engine swap right? When you are at a stop, in neutral, is it difficult to put the shifter into first? I am kind out of ideas, i would suggest you check the fluid level again, im kinda surprised no one else has chimed in

could be either the mainshaft or countershaft bearings going bad on the transmission.

I had a distinct whining in all gears when i put the incorrect weight Redline MTF oil (70w80) That tranny didn't last very long like that, the damage was irreversible.

            Trans noise

the only thing that was changed was the engine. i just put in a new clutch, thrust bearing and pressure plate. i added 10w-30 motor oil like the manuals said to. when i asked transmission shops they were like use motor oil. not that transmission stuff. they came out with that in 96, and mine is a 91. but the oil they recommend has a rating of sj and sf. they dont make the type of oil anymore. the oil they make now are for the newer cars. and dont have the same additives and the older oil.

Right, i have a 91 accord with a 5 speed, bought it with 204,000 now it has 267,000

Ive replaced the tranny oil with 10w30 every 2 years and havent had any problems

In fact in the 63000 miles ive put on the car, the only thing ive replaced are, alternator, battery, coil, cap and rotor twice, plugs twice, wires twice, driver window regulator, and i cant think of anything else ( knock on wood!!!)

Anyway, i would suggest you take it to a honda dealership, and try talking to the oldest, wisest looking dude there, maybe see if you can take him for a drive and see what he says
