Curious question about engine sound after timing belt replacement

I got the timing belt /water pump/seals/tensioners.... replaced ( all Gates per recommendation here) a couple of months ago. I took the car for a 3700 km journey, no problem.

But I noticed that the engine sounds different , like when you were a kid and try to blow air in front of a rotating fan. Why is that? It doesn't bother me at all, the engine's performance is much better now , but it is one of those things one wants to know.

    any idea?

It could be the belt is loose or too tight. When you put the new timing belt on did you pull the engine through about 3 rotations before fully tightening the tensioner bolt?

The mechanic did it. I didn't have the tools or the guts to do it . Maybe it had the same sound before, but i never noticed. How could I check that everything is alright? .... I was thinking that running the engine over 4000 km , it was all ok

Does it sound like a super charger and increase in noise as you increase in RPM? Also do you know if the mechanic removed any intake parts? Could be a vaccum leak as well

I will try to make a small video. I would not call it a noise. It is pretty constant It sounds like a bumble bee (zzzzzzz sound) I thought it was the water pump that has more blades than the original one.

What was replaced? timing belt kit ( two belts, tensioners, water pump, and three seals )

during the last road trip (2900 miles) it averaged 35 mpg (highway) . I didn't feel/find anything unusual at all during the whole trip.

                  Your belt is too tight.

What belt? the timing belt? Would it stretch or should I take it back to the mechanic? Is it one of those do it yourself job?

you can first try your serpentine belt, simply loosen the tensioner on the alternator bracket. Don't make it too slack, just simply loosen it, then pull tension on it by pulling the alternator. Don't go crazy pulling it though, just enough to make the belt tight.
If that doesn't work then you can try your timing belt. Simply loosen the tensioner nut, (the nut that sticks out of the lower engine cover. Then Rotate the engine by using the crank pulley bolt counterclock wise 3 full rotations. Then tighten the tensioner nut, do three more rotations and then check the tension on the timing belt. You will probably have to remove the top timing cover to check the tension.

Hope this helps and is a little self explanatory. If not I can try and snag some pictures of the timing belt tensioner nut later tonight.

It's your timing belt. I'd put money on it.

Remove the power steering belt and see if it stops. If not, remove alternator belt, and again, see if it stops. If not those, your timing belt is too tight. It's pretty straight forward as a DIY, but if you're not confident, don't do it as it will cause engine damage if done incorrectly. I.E valves getting smacked by pistons.

I don't mean to steal the thread, but since this thread is about the timing belt, I'd like to know if there's a difference in the size of the timing belt between F22A6 and F22A4 ? what should be the size of the timing belt for an F22A6 which is currently inside my car ?

Timing belts for F22A1, F22A6, and F22A4 are identical.
