    Electrical oddity

Good day everyone! 1991 EX Sedan, 244k miles, stock engine.

I've noticed twice now that while I'm driving in somewhat heavy rain that for a few seconds the wipers will get really slow and everything gets dim, but after a few seconds all returns to normal. It's almost as if I've lost electrical power and I'm running on the battery. During this time, I have the a/c on, wipers on, lights on, and radio on. I've also noticed that I've developed a belt squeal when it gets really wet outside.

I believe the alternator is the original one except for when the previous owners replaced the internal brushes.

Battery is known to be good, a/c compressor is a new Denso unit and the engine runs great.

In the morning on the way to work I have the a/c on, lights on, and radio on, but nothing "odd" happens; no seemingly loss of power and no belt squeal.

    Any ideas on this?

    Visual belt inspection
    Check tension
    Check alternator bearings
    Load test the alternator
    Check/inspect ground wires

if your belt is squealing then its time to adjust the tension or a new belt. Its slipping even if you dont hear it, when the demand is high and the belt slips youre not getting full current output and the voltage sags, so you are indeed running exclusively off the battery till the belt grabs again.
stp makes a belt dressing to stop slippage, but the belts easy enough to get to to either adjust out the slack or put on a new one.
