    shifter sticky

Ok i'm very worried.. whats happening.. ok this is whats going on lately.. whenever i shift from 1st to 2nd i can get it to go in smooth.. sometimes the shifter feels rough and feels likes it going over lil bumps...(happens during cold too.. that doesn't matter).. anyways yea.... since i've been driving stick for 3weeks.. someone said its me not knowing how to shift.. others says.. i'm clippin the gears.. if i continue i'll eventually wear out synchros or chip a teeth and now i'll have grinding gears... some people say i might need tranny oil...some say its a sign of clutch wearing out.. i'm very paranoid about this and right about know i feel like just selling the cb7 and just gettin an automatic one to hook up.. this car is nothing but trouble and headache..

i'm sure i'm not the only one this happen too.. so please post your experiences with this.. or tell me what u did to fix it...

i've searched for shifter grinds.. even though it doesn't grind. when the shifter feels like its going over lil bumps.. searched for sticky shifter.. nothing .. just come up wit people members profile wit short shifter and watnot..

please help and sorry about the long post thanks.. ALSO FOR THE THOSE THAT I ASKED THROUGH AIM ALREADY PLEASE DISREGARD THIS POST..

doesn't hurt to hear the voices of more than one cb7 owners..

the best thing to do is to take it to a shop and have someone drive it...most of the time they dont charge so they can replicate the problem...if they find none its probably just your shifting

my best bet is you are having some difficulties shifting smoothly..ie you are pushing the clutch all the way in and JAMMING the shifter in gear...well maybe not TOO hard but you arent being gentle with her. cause the "sound" you describe is what i get when im racing..its a couple clicks and engage sound.

but in normal driving i have no sounds at all (well third gear on occasion..but isnt that the infamous grind of all hondas?!)

wouldnt hurt to change out the tranny fluid though..my recc. is Honda OEM MTF..redline this, lucas that, stp w/e IDC!!! best results ive had is with the honda MTF so thats what i tell people to use.

so i guess all i really have to say is BE GENTLE!!!! when cruising, baby your accord...she deserves some TLC. o btw..4bidden shortshifter..nuff said

yea when i slam on clutch u can feel the engine disconnecting and spinning freely quick.. kinda give u a lil bump when i do that..

yea man i have to floor the clutch... so your saying me flooring the clutch is why its not shifting smoothly? really? i was told to floor it.. or else my gearswill grind badly..

so was it that, or was it what i told you, SYNCHROS......how many damn opinions do you need?

your tranny is fucked, accept it........it's happened to many of us....it's life

just quit asking the same question over and over.......there is no reason to.....if it's that concerning, take it to a shop and let them diagnose it in person

i like how u said my tranny is fucked.. hahah lol.. yea well i found out that it would do it even when the clutch is floored..

somebody mentioned its its the shifter going through whats called "shift gates"?

anyone aware of this? but if thats the case.. why sometimes it goes in gear smooth... sometimes rough..

i did take it to a shop.. dude did nothin but beat the shit out of it.. he would rev it to 2500rpm to take off.. he sometimes would screech the tires.. i'm just sitting next to him.. getting heated... i was going to yell wtf dude.. he shifts at 6k rpm.. he even had the nerve to recline seat so he could try to look cool..

a good tranny shouldn't show ANY of these symptoms AT ALL......even when dirty, it normally won't do it......99% of the time, changing fluid does nothing and the 1% of the time it does, it's usually a difference only seen when you shift it cold.........

you definitely have something wrong........the thing is, like i told you last week, it MAY get worse and it MAY not.........beat on it, misshift, it will get worse....misshifting is the reason synchros go bad.....no other reason.....never miss a shift, they'll never go bad........a bad clutch normally shows up when it slips......your's isn't slipping, your synchros aren't meshing well and it's showing up as a catch, or notchy feeling shifting..........

all you can do is this: put clean fluid in it, make sure the clutch is 100% bled and has no air in it (if it feels nice and firm from top to bottom, then it's fine) and drive it normally........that's all you can do....rebuilding it isn't worth it, replacing it may not be necessary right now....wait until it's worse
thanks fizz i knew u would come thru.. its really gettin to me.. maybe i should sell it before it gets worse..

i almost when i was first learning i was in 2nd gear.. and i would try to go into 3rd but went into 5th instead..
also i did shift from 1st to 4th a couple of time.. i guess all that adds up.. damn

maybe this can help narrow down my problem.. like 3 weeks ago i found the clutch container empty.. so i was like wtf maybe the owner didn;t add any in years or maybe it dried out cuz the car didn't move for a good week.. so i went and added dot 3 brake fluid.. after since that 3weeks.. the fluid has stayed....

my car sat for one year..never being driven and had a passenger side axle snap at the shaft the entered the tranny...and i had a full "clutch resv." check to see if you have a leak..might help with smoother shifters if yours is dry.

but if you fucked your synchros (like what fizz says) aint shit gonna help cept a different tranny. but dood..you need to check all available problem sources and not just assume because then a diagnosis will be off base. so do all you can and then get back to us.

actually you are all wrong i just had this same proplem last month and it was my pinion bearing in the tranny, and syncros also go out from resting your hand on the shifter when you are not shifting, i just got the prelude type s tranny with the lsd and i am happy as a clam, like i have said in some of the other post that alot of the people on here give the wrong advice and need to shut the hell up, your syncros are toast

damn pinion bearing are you really sure? damn so i gotta take it to the shop to get that fixed? when i shift.. sounds likes it clippin the gears.. i'm worried overtime it'll brake some teeth..

what does pinion bearing doing? how much did it cost? but i mean it doesn't do it everytime i shift.. only does it sumtimes.. only time to not make it do it is.. i shift really fast..

if i don't get it fix soon what might happen?
