    Intermittent Overheating problem

Looking for some help with this problem. In the past year, I've replaced the radiator, water pump, radiator cap, hoses and thermostat. A couple of weeks ago I replaced the rear motor mount and in doing so I removed the intake manifold to make it a little easier. The overheating problem seems to have started after this last round of work. Has anyone else experienced this??? I made sure I cleaned the head and intake very well, used a new gasket, and tightened all the bolts. The symptoms I'm experiencing are: extreme pressures on both upper and lower hoses, all the coolant (well, a majority of it) ends up in the reservoir and when it cools does it's all sucked back into the radiator. I did purge the air out after replacing the intake manifold and the fans work fine. The problem can be replicated (did it today, first time on about a week). Any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated. In the meantime I'll be TIA!!

I bled the system with the bleeder valve on the back side of the thermostat housing (I believe that's the same place that you are describing) and I do not hear any bubbling or boiling noises.

I did top it off after it warmed up, but I will check it again in the morning.

    Thanks Fizz!!

it can be a bad thermostat again.

feel both upper and lower hoses after the engine is warm for about 20 minutes....if the lower one is cold and the top one isnt then its ur thermostat.

the pressures are fine, those are normal...when the car is getting cold cluid usually goes back into the radiator and when its hot some of it goes back into the resavor. this means ur cooling system is working, and ur radiator cap is fine.

id check the thermostat again....and then if not then the coolant temp sensors.

when u say all coolant is gone....out of where the radiator or the resavor? is the radiator itself filled up? 50/50 mixture?
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

I think you nailed it when you said temp sensors. I started the day by letting it idle for about an hour to purge air out of the system. As it idled, I noticed that the cooling fans never came on. As I snooped around, I noticed that one of the temp sensors (the one at the thermostat housing) was not connected. DOH

After contecting it.. the cooling fans suddenly starting working!!!!

I'm going to guess that it was an intermittent problem b/c I'm usually on the interstate and have the a/c on and never realized that it only ran hot when the a/c was off (like it did yesterday).

I owe you both one for the advice!!
