    Need Help! ASAP

i'm pullin my engine out of the car right now to change tranny and timing belt. I can't get the crank pulley off. i' ve tried heating it up and have run my compressor to its max using ingersoll air hammer. the clutch is gone so i caught put it in gear and the engine turns if i use a ratchet. Any suggestions please, i need to stop the engine from turning over so i can try a breaker bar. please i need help.

    Thanks

Im not positive but cant you jam a large scredriver through the hole in the top of the transmision and jam the flywheel to keep the motor from turning. Thats what we did a few days ago on the auto trans. I just used a breaker bar and the handle off my floor jack as an extension for more force it popped right off.

There is a special tool to hold the crankpulley in place. Good luck finding one at a tool shop. I had to order mine off the net.

If you really want to be crazy, find a socket big enough for the bolt, and shove a breaker bar long enough to reach the ground. Pull your spark plugs, and turn your car over and that should loosen it up enough.

(DISCLAIMER: ITS NOT MY FAULT IF YOU RUIN YOUR MOTOR DOING THIS)

Xlr857 i might try that tomorrow, since i don't need the tranny if i break any gears its ok.
Evol90accord, is this similar to what ur talking about http://www.thetoolwarehouse.net/shop/SP-60100.html
if so do u know if u can get/rent this tool from honda? and did u do this with the tranny still on.
xScott, thats definetly something i didn't think about but i don't think i'll be trying i out. It probably won't be strong enough and i'm not in the mood to break anything, but
thanks anyways. The advice was much apreciated by all.

Honda won't let you borrow one or rent it, I asked. They say their specialty tool is like 200 bucks...

I bought mine from amazon.com . Here is the link from Powerbuilt tools. It was about 30 bucks shipped. There are a few different versions, shop around if you can wait to get it done. It helps immensely. I tried holding the flywheel teeth with a screwdriver, it didn't work too well. Trying to turn the motor over while wedging the breaker bar against something shot my breaker bar across my garage... I don't recommend that either. Use the right tool for the job!

PS - if you need it, I wrote a DIY on timing belt changes here

I usually use a chain style strap wrench. It's readily available and not expensive. Alot of people don't like this idea because they say it can damage the grooves on the crank pulley but I've done about 6 so far using it and it's been fine. Mine seats nicely in between the grooves on the PS belt part of the pulley and I tighten it just enough to hold.

Thanks for the advice, got the pulley off today. I tried finding the proper tool but there was nowhere to buy, rent, or borrow one from. So i tried the chain strap wrench and it worked pretty easily. However, it did mess up the pulley but i don't use power steering anyways so it was no big deal. Anyways just wanted to say thanks again for the help u guys gave me some ideas that i didn't think of, and thankfully the pulley is off.
