My oil light is flashing while the engine is running!!!! Flickers at idle, but flashes like a trouble code at higher rpms! HELP Could this be a trouble code?? All the major areas I've checked, oil level,no major signs of leaks or usage, idle level seems to be normal. I've owned about 20 Hondas over the past 15 years and never had an oil pump failure,I'm hoping this isn't the first. Has anyone ever seen this before??? Thanks

Re: oil pressure!! HELP
Yeah, pretty much one of three things. The oil pickup tube could b clogged. The oil pressure switch (sending unit) could be freaking out. Or the main and rod bearings have worn to the point that there is too much of a gap to maintain proper oil pressure.Originally posted by dragracer

Also check the rear balance shafts oil seal, Sometimes they go out and the pressure is lost threw there. It was a huge problem with 5th gen's but maybe you suffer from a similar issue.Originally posted by dragracer
don't think its a wear issue! i'm hoping its the sending unit,i was wondering if anyone else has seen one go bad(on a Honda) my experience with a sending unit is,it either works or it don't!? nothing in between
I have also seen the oil pick-up get clogged with old peices of oil pan gasket that breaks off from the inside. When the rubber gets old it turns into like plastic and just falls apart.

busted-would there be an oil leak out of the rear balance shaft seals? didn't know they existed!! if i can get it to the house, i'm going to try to install a manual pressure gauge to eliminate the sending unit. by the way,i'm just wanting to make sure there is only 1 oil pressure switch!! on the back of the block, just above the filter!!"Speed costs money, how fast can you afford to go?"

Yes there would be an oil leak associated with the failed seal. There is only one oil pressure sensor on the F22A1 it is located directly above the oil filter.Originally posted by dragracer

BUT i am pretty sure the balancer shaft seal being bad would NOT create low oil pressure. Mine went out, and the oil pressure was low. however, your light would go on when you loose too much oil.
jmo.
also, nobody said anything about a oil pump. That is also a possibility, and would DESTROY any engine in a matter of miles.Noobie my ASS.

Yes it causes a loss of oil pressure I've seen it several times first hand. Also the light is dual purpose it serves as a low oil indicator and a low oil pressure indicator.Originally posted by slobluaccord

Probably because they don't fail. We've never replaced one on an F, H, D, B, or C-Series engine.Originally posted by slobluaccord

OOOOOHHHHH yes they DO fail!!!!
and it sucks bad. I know of at LEAST three other f22 accord owners that had them go out, and my own went out. It leaked oil like crazy and sucked real bad. It is also a MAJOR B ITCH to replace(just replace timing belt and h20 pump at same time). They go out because stupid Honda left out a two dollar balancer shaft seal retainer. So when that seal goes out, you get to pay two bucks for the seal, two bucks for the seal retainer(that should have been there in the first place) and about 100 bucks in labor. UHHHH. I HATE that.
but long story short, they Do go out.
And busted, i didn't know they would cause a loss of oil pressure, but i don't doubt your word. When mine went out, my oil light only came on because it was loosing massive amounts of oil without me knowing it, and my oil got too low. I immediatly filled it and the light went off, and never came on again.Noobie my ASS.

My car Started to do that too. Its not leaking oil because i changed my oil and i have been checking it and its still the same but before oil change i was getting low on oil. Would u be able to tell its leaking easily cuz if i do leak oil it takes a while. Cuz i know i leak a little cuz i have leaked a little since i have had my car. Or i could be burning it? Light only comes on after drving around for a while. In morning when i turn it on i can prolly drive like 15min before it starts coming on.Last edited by accordingly2004; 12-28-2003, 09:28 PM.

It sounds to me that you are talking about the balance seals.... not the oil pump... so how does that make your pump fail, like those 3 other people, when you arent even talking about the pump?.....please clear that up if i read it wrong.Originally posted by slobluaccord

update
well.i finally had time to work on my car last night. pulled the pan, everything looked great! almost new looking!! no signs of anything unusual,no bearing material, nothing. the pick-up looked good also-i pulled it to clean it just in case!!
makes me wonder what the hell is going on!! it only seems to have pressure problems when everything is warm(operating temp) i don't know!! i find it hard to believe that my bearings are gone at 147,000,my car has been super babied since new and this crap just started all the sudden!! if i have time this weekend i'm going to try to put it back together-with a new sending unit, and a manual oil pressure gauge.
thanks for all the response to my post,it seems like a good community of cb7 owners here!! glad to be a part of it.
Thanks"Speed costs money, how fast can you afford to go?"
