urgent need some help for bench bleeding master cylinder??

    hey,

my other car's pedal would sink in after every few seconds when i hold it at a stop light, the car would move and it felt like my brakes can't grip. i would have to resort to ebrake, or pumping it a lot. scary. could it be anything else that might be wrong? booster?

i was told it would be the master cylinder. what do u guys think?

do u think doing it myself would be difficult? the only part i am uncertain is bench bleeding. this is a 90 civic, and im not sure how to bench bleed. or if replacing the master cylinder would be easy.

    any ideas or steps?

    thanks.

well you can put the master cylinder on the car and use the hoses that come with it and route the hose into the resivor and have some one sit in the car and depress the pedal. make sure you have them put there foot under the pedal so it doesnt hit the floor it can ruin the seals in the cylinder. have them depress it and hold for like a few seconds probably and then bring it back up and keep doing it until you have no more bubles coming out of the hoses or the resivor. i got my master cylinder for 55 bucks with new resivor and all came with hoses for bleeding and instructions

where'd u get that from? so it comes w/ EVERYTHING i need, cept the basic tools and what not right? any special tools u recommend? i think i'll give it a shot, that is, if the only thing wrong is the master cylinder.

so bench bleeding = having it installed into the car already? i did a google and it says to connect the supplied tubes/etc from the output ports back into the resoirvor.

i got mine from advance auto parts. i would use a line wrench to get the lines off of the master cylinder so you dont strip the nuts. well we can do it in the car with our cars some cars you cant but ours you can just bolt it up to the brake booster and do the tubes just like there are in the pics and do as i said and youll be good. now when you go to put the brake lines in you can take the bleeder things out and conect the lines and bleed them at the caliper if you want or you can have some one sit in the car and tell them to depress the pedal and as they are doing that loosen up the line taht goes into the cylinder and wait for some fluid to come out and then tigten them up it should be good. make sure to put a towel udner the cylinder or somethign and use water to wash the fluid away only water dont wipe it will take yoru paint off

just to clarify. i am pretty sure i can do the bench bleeding. the thing is, i don't know what to do after i see no bubbles.

if i detach the tube from the MC, and try to put the brake lines in, won't that expose it to air? or is there something in the MC that will prevent it ?

so after i bench, my resoivor is still filled right? i just let it be like that and attach it?

                thanks.

Just have someone hold the pedal down while you connect the lines.

when i bench bleed mine i had a friend help me out...he pumped the MC while i plugged and unplugged the holes to let the air out...so what you do, fill the mc with brake fluid and cover both holes with your fingers. unplug one hole and have your friend pump it once and hold it...plug the hole with your finger and let the pump out so as to not suck aor back in...keep doind this until no air comes out and repeat this process for the other hole and youre done...make sure you have the MC filled with brake fluid at all times. once your done and no air comes out fill it up to the max line and install it back on and youre done

i think i got the bench down, im just not sure the part where u are finished w/ the bleed. so once the pump is gone and air bubbles gone, and the MC is filled, what do u do?

aren't ur fingers or plugs covering the 2 ports? and to attach the brake line, won't some fluid spill out naturally or etc.??

is that what i should do? first do the bench, then unplug 1 side to install brakes?

thanks... very muhc i loosed the lines on my mc and brakes lines, pretty easy. nothing stuck..

okay i got my parts. and im gonna bleed the MC tomororw.

the thing is after i bleed the MC, which caliper do i bleed first? the closest One? or the usual farthest first?
and i still need some ideas on what to do to install the MC after bleed. won't the bleed ports leak out some?

anyhow thanks much.. i wanna just sell the damn civ.. already

no brake fluid will leak when your done bench bleeding and you uncover the two holes...unless you pump but youre too bright to do that right? once you install always bleed the farthest caliper first and work your way to the closest
