    ... whats the difference?

between anti rust and water pump lube?

my water pump whines like a little bitch and i researched and said that i need water pump lube

i go to napa auto parts and the guy there says that anti rust IS water pump lube, getting rid of the rust thats on the waterpump shaft, creating the whining..

is their a difference or is that guy right?

NAPA auto parts people are really not import specialists. The whinning sound means the pump is going.

Just keep it filled with the proper amount of coolant/water mix. The water pumps have sealed bearings in them and once they start to go out it is time to change that pump.
And while you are in there check your timing belt and balance shaft belt.

      Can't complain, it was free!

i know the timing belts and all other belts are good, we just had those replaced...

ive gotten such a run around with this whining noise,,,

i was first told it was the speed sensor making that noise

then i was told it was the transmission making that noise

then i thought it was the alternator

then i researched and found it was shaft play with the waterpump and it needs lubricant

since then i have had the speed sensor replaced,

        the tranny rebuilt

the alternator checked by the dealer

what do i got to lose?

if this dont work, i dont know what im gonna do... what if its the main bearing...?

        FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK?!?!

bro, speaking from experience, whining on startup = pump going soon.

me and 91ACCORDSIR (his coupe) had experienced this, i thought it was merely a hose popping, but turns out the hose popped because of how hot the antifreeze was getting thanks to the fuxored water pump. so just swap it now before it goes at a critical moment.

the water pump is going out?

so, you've had this happen before?

let me describe it to you, just to make sure....

When i start the car, it makes a loud whining noise that you can hear over the engine.

its most audible when its around 1-2K RPM, but you cant hear it that well when its above 3...

my car never gets overheated, or hot

bad water pump? if it goes out, what kinda damage can be done? I dont have the money for a new water pump....

the whining noise has been with us ever since we bought the car 3 years ago. It was just so mundane then,

now its REALLY appearent(sp?) and i cant fucking stand it any more... people know im comming a fucking mile away because of that whining noise...

I'm going to jump on this one. I have something that sounds similar.

After I swapped in my H22, after startup I get a whining, that sounds exactly like a loose belt. However my belt seem to be tight.

                Any ideas.

And sorry for the thread jacking.

no problem, can you be a bit more descriptive?

does the whining fluctuate(sp?) with the RPMs? does it get louder, softer?

what kinda mods do you have?

I want to get this fucking problem solved

to be more precise, on startup in concert with turning the key, i got that squeel, and after about 5 seconds it stopped. is your issue similar or not?

also, check your belts. especially the lower one (i forget which that is), maybe a little silicon lubrication (ex: wd-40, etc.) maybe that can help.

it seems like although we both had a squeel coming from the water pump, our symptoms are quite different.

Mine is weird. I'm pretty sure its the ac belt, even though it "seems" tight. Depending on the weather, the squeal can be long or short and when I rev it to make it stop it will rise in colume with the revs and then end abruptly, just like a belt sounds. (I really need to get these belts checked ) But on other times it will squeal for a few seconds and then stop without provocation. I don't get it.

I had someone look at it briefly (ie. open hood, listen to startup, leave) and he mentioned that it might be because of another problem I have.

When I start my car, my fuel pump doesnt come on and pressurize the fuel system. Because of this I have to crank my car for about 30 seconds everytime I start it.

he said that the squealing might be from strain on the alternator, which then causes the alternator to squeal.

Needless to say, I have a walboro waiting to go in, just waiting on fuel lines (damn you racer94), and then I can see if that solves that problem. Unless the fuel pump issue is caused by some ghetto rigged wiring.

Any suggestion are more than welcome.

*cliffs, my car is annoying, doesn't like to start, and squeals on startup

it dosent sound like a squeel. it sounds more like a turbine or supercharger noise... LOL

If the pump is making a weeping sound that would mean the pump is on the fritz , as far as whining have it check by a proffesional not by some Napa dude.

I've been looking for the answer to a "SC sound" coming form the timing belt area. I'm in the process of hopefully taking of the timing cover so i can check the BELT TENSIONER.
BTW I noticed that the lower belt appears to have a slight split in it...but I could not get a good view because of the obstructions.
