    need help asap

my car dies on me when im driving. say im just driving then all of a sudden the rpm levels go down and the car dies (idle out). yes i've done a tune-up, checked the air filter, and tranny fluid. i have a automatic 93 lxa. my dad took it to a mechanic and says its the distributor. my question is the distributor really the problem. im just thinking that the mechanic he took it to just wants money from us.

When my coil went out, it juts died while i was driving, but if your car starts back up again after its prob not the distributor/coil.

any more specs? does it doit when its hot? cold? after you start it? after running for a long time? some times? all the time?

been happening last week for 3 straight days then i didnt drive it anymore and i just garaged it. then took it to the shop to check it out. happens around 5-10min when i started driving it. now it happens sooner. takes apx 5 min to get it to run again.

im not really sure b/c i drive no more than 10 min to school, and i drive to work apx 15 min depending on traffic. as i said im just driving for apx 5 min then i idle out and i pull somewhere safe and try to start it back up again. take around 5 minutes to get it to work again, and i get home safely b/c by the time the car broke down im like 2 minutes away.

my igniter coil was doing that to about 2 weeks ago, sorta it wouldn't die while driving but if i drove the car for a cuple minuts and turned it off it would not let me start it again until it cooled down... your mechanic might be right pertaining to the distro since the igniter coil is in their...

mark it first with a magic marker and change the ignitor happened to me before too already. Makr it going across the dstributor to the other side and when your done line em back up and done.

just mark the top bolt and align it to the valve cover...you can either indent/scrtahc the valve cover or just use chalk.

and then three 12mm bolts and 3 electrical connections...everything should come out.

make sure you have a rag to clean up the oil that is gonna spill out.
