does anybody know what causes this?

I just recently put a intake on my 1993 Accord lx and here latle i have been noticing that it backfires through the intake making a popping sound and also makes a vibration from the motor when i give the car alittle gas to take off. I figured that it was the extra air is cramming into the head and not going out the exhaust( i do not have a exhaust yet) so does anyone knows whats causing this? Please guys give an idea and?or way to fix this. I hope it will not blow my intake gasket!

most likely the vibrations are coming from the intake itself rubbing against something. did you bolt it down using rubber isolators? as far as the backfires, that shouldn't happen at all. air doesn't "cram" into the head so you don't have to worry about blowing any gaskets. you just get better flow. what brand of intake do you have? it may sound obvious but did you make sure you installed it correctly?

to add.....have your ignition timming checked. the off timming could result in detonation (bad). also if your timming belt is loose it can jump the teeth on your sprokets, making a pop sound. later.

The amplifying of the backfiring sound is caused by an exhaust leak. I'm going with Type G's comment on this one. I strongly believe that the timing may just be set in an extreme postion. Meaning you may have really retarded timing or really advanced timing. And if your backfires are loud fizz may be right about the exhaust thing.

i think the part that is unusual, is that he says it backfires though the intake. later.

Bad timing can do that. I know from the conquest that my friend got a year ago.

That thing shot flames out the intake tract

to me, it sounds like your problem always existed, its just that the lack of noise reduction on an aftermarket intake will make the sound louder.

Actually mine does this also...when the throttle is closed suddenly it makes a *pop* sound. Dunno? Maybe I will have timing checked asap.

not only popping can be casue by vacuumleaks untrust exhaust flow but it can be some shit like the plugs or something to do with the plugs or plug wires. Before i put my other engine back in when i went to check my timing that cylinder didnt fire at all because it had 1 bosch plug with 3 other NGK plugs and they where all burnt up.

My CAI makes kind of a gurgle sound like when I'm in first cruising a parking lot, and I let of the pedal. Kind of gurgles (sounds like backpressure) but it never had me worried, besides it sounds cool.

on the stairs, she grabs my arm, says whats up,
where you been, is something wrong?
i try to just smile, and say everything’s fine.

the refered pop is a valcumn issue...i fabricated my intake on my car and when i did so there wasnt a spot for the line that runs from the right side of the intake manifold so i put a breather on it...it ran fine..then one day i decided to run that line to one of the unused ports on the throttle body so i did..when i did this a gave it gas this resulted in the before mentioned popping sound....try to unplug that line if you ran it to the throttle body and push a small 2 1/4 inch breather over that diaphram..its what the line that runs across the intake runs too....and goldish in color...cant remember what its called sorry....thats why accord made intakes have two ports...the one that goes to the head an the smaller one that runs too the other side of the manifold

Yeah, I don't think it's a backfire through the intake. It's some sort of vacuum leak or improper installation.
