    ok so:
where (shops) can rods be cryo'd?
how can i run forged pistons and rods in my f block?
antoine u scare me everytime you talk... move the wrist pin?
i heard shotpenned is good. what is that?
    cryoed cast pistons?
im building another block in six months. i want 14 psi. i know how to build. pointers on compatibility and benefits of this versus that would be cool. not trying to thread jack but this revolves around the topic.

i scare myself...you can just buy f22 forged rods and 86mm forged pistons, hone the deck, and just about literally toss them in with no other mods. I'm gonna do the same and push it to about 17psi DD

oh and the liquid nitrogen they dip the item in is around -323*F. And from what i've read it would take at most 80 hours from start to finish.

How much WHP would cryo rods handle in an F? I would bet a nice chunk of change they could easily handle 325whp. In all seriousness how many rods have you broken? The weakest link first and foremost is going to be the ringlands fallowed by the rod bolts. More often then not a rod and/or rod bolt faluire is cause by exceeding the maximum fpm (feet per minute) of the rotating assembly and not the cylinder pressure.

Yeah, I didn't ask about the rods or the pistons because I figured my best bet would be Arias pistons and Crower rods, but I'm having trouble finding a crankshaft, so I figured if cryo really did what I have the impression that it's capable of, it's a hell of a lot cheaper than a performance crank would be anyway. I need to find a place around here that does it, but I found a shop in Utah and one in Wisconson, and I can't remember which had their standard prices up, but one said $7 per rod if it's aluminum, $8 if ferrous, $8 per aluminum piston, $9 per ferrous piston, and $125 for a crank shaft, so I figure if I pick up a balanced crank from F22parts.com, then have that cryo'd, that would stand up to what I want, and it'd be balanced. But you said stock can handle 10? That's cool, my last car couldn't. I may put it off for a minute then, do it later. Does rotational speed make a difference though? I'm thinking I'll be doing the h22a head swap, so 7 1/2k RPM + 10 PSI?

              source of rods and pistons?
correct me if im wrong but you were speaking to me specifically when you said 86 mm right? on my other block i may not need 86 mm. but im still wanting to know a source for f22 pistons.

I researched that deeply. The F22 and H22 pistons are the same part numbers from most manufacturers (SRP, JE pistons). They don't bother advertising as F22 engine parts because most people use build the H22 anyway. Plus, when the pistons when used in the H22 the manufacturers recommend resleeving the block. The piston slap alone will wear down the H22 stock sleeves.

Well said MRX. They are in fact interchangeable between the F and H series as i stated before. Check the listings at any of the piston manufacturers that sell stock size forged pistons for the H22 and the F22, they have the same part number. That also goes for the rods as well. They treat them as the same due to their dimensions.

but then again i thought the h22 had an 88mm bore as opposed to the f22's 85. Boring out an f22 to anything over 86.5mm is extremely dangerous and going past that is just retarded

Can boring an F series block be benificial then?

Arias shows that the H series pistons are the same size, but the F series pistons are slightly smaller like you said MRX. The pistons with the matching part numbers from SRP were for the F22 and the H22. Apparently I had an outdated catalog (2004 mind you) and that was a misprint in the catalog. Thank god someone talked about it on here. I would have really bought the pistons only to find out that they are the wrong size.

That means I will definitely be looking at those KMS development pistons for the F22. That way I can be on the safe side. What about the H22 and F22 crank. Are those any different from each other. I never tore down an H to know. I read on a few sites that they were but you can never be too sure about that. If so, wouldn't be beneficial to buy a F series crank and have that knifeedged and cryo treated?

I've also heard the crank is the same...but i'm not sure if that just meant other rod's bolted right up or if that meant they were exactly the same.

Racing Cryogenic Treatment Site I especially love it when they list prices for everything.

You know...come to think of it i've never seen/heard of someone snapping a rod in an f22.
