    Smoking bad

    Ok,

I have a 1990 accord with 155,XXX miles, I just replaced the valve seals and the dam thing still smokes bad, looks like a fogger coming out of my tailpipe. I did a compression test, 180+ all across the cylinders. Now it whent to 180+ withing 3 cranks of the motor. Now im stumped cause things look tword the rings being spent but compression shows different. I know cylinders hold air cause when I did the valve seals the compressor turned on maybe once per cylinder. I am getting a code 12 off my ECU, but that shouldnt have anything to do with the smoke. and Ive only added a quart of oil in a month and a half, which most of that pissed out when my vlave cover gasket wasnt on properly.

Any help would be great!!!!! Im kinda stumperd and even more so after reading 30+ pages of stuff to dee if my symptoms are the same as mine

    Thanks guys

    what color smoke?

white smoke is usually coolant...blue is oil burning...did you ntake the head off the motor when you did valves seals.? maybe you didnt properly torque head down to block in right sequence..code 12 is egr related..probably bad lift sensor. or maybe you put in your seals backward or in wrong side..ie exhaust in intake side and air is reverbing into inktake blocking egr flow.
maybe oil got blown into your egr ports and valve and clogged it. i mean you say you added oil with a leaky gasket and you said it
"pissed out" dunno..the color of smoke would help diagnose.

he mentioned using air when doing the valve seals so I'm assuming he did them with the head on.

If you're getting 180 all the way across, the rings should be fine. However, are you sure you are burning oil? What color is the smoke.....white or blue?

Sorry, I forgot to say the color, its deffenetly blue. Did the valve seals with head on. I dont think I put the seals on backwards they came in seperate bags. Exaust is front intake is rear. I just am at a loss, very embarassing driving down the road, of course maybe im helping the mosquito problem in my area

I also was getting the code before I did the valve seals

If you're getting 180 compression then there should not be any oil leaks (or any major oil leaks at least). How long have you been driving the car since the valve seals were replaced? Maybe you need to drive it a little more to clear out any excess oil from the cylinders. Also, pull the plugs and look at them. Might be worth going ahead and changing them out as well. If you're still puttin out blue smoke after a while then I'm guessing one of the valve seals didn't seat properly. If that is the case, the spark plug for that cylinder should show it.

checked the valve seals today, all were good. Gave it a new filter and a oil change. Put a can of restore in also to see what happens there. After the oil change I took it out and really got on it. First run was blue smoke pouring out, second run was a cloud of gray and black. I know im runing rich. So off to canada tomorrow to look at a new engine just incase . Never can tell what I may find.

Thanks for all the info guys this forum is the shit!!!!!!!!!!!

check your pcv valve, it could be time to change it. I had a bad pcv valve and the oil started going through the intake until i changed the valve. It has been running fine after that.

                very good point

check your pcv valve..some folks remove the breather line that runs from the intake to valve cover and that effectively eliminates removing emmissions from crankcase...mainly blowby..the pcv is a positive pressure system when stock...it draws air from intake and blow it into valve cover and down by crank eventually coming out pcv valve back into intake to be reburned..this also reduces bloeby past rings...dont beleive my remove breather line and put a *** ass breather filter on it..eventually youll notice a small film of oil on everything. so yeah check your pcv valve..and let us know if you find out what it was..im curious
