knocking noise??

I was on my way to work this morning, getting off the highway my car began to make a knocking noise kind of like a constant rattling. the car kept on running and i made it to work. went out at lunch to fire it up and it knocked really loud and fast at first but slowed down and got a bit quieter after it warmed up a little. ther are no misfires and there is plenty of oil. what could passibly be causing this? I still have to get back home.

maybe the valves are out of adjustment?

i think its a possibility, were you revving it high at all... or driving it hard?

i was driving a liitle hard. the engine seems to idle fine.do you think i can make it home? its only about 14 mi. away.

i think i bent a rod or somthing. the noise is pretty loud at first and seems to be coming from the bottom end. this sux. i just finished fixing my wifes altima and now this things acting up. oh well, that's life. thanx for your help.
