    100 to 180 problem

i have a short ram intake system on my 96 accord i noticed that it gets to 100kmh with ease... but then from 100 to 180 it takes for eva.. when it finally gets to around 180 i sometimes get a jolt like it didnt get fuel or something.. i get a bit scared and slow down again.. i am using an automatic.. any ideas?

well 180 KMH is roughly 115 MPH or so and that means that you're probably hitting the fuel cut-off (speed govenor). That's why it won't go any higher than that. As for taking forever to get there, it's gonna have more to do with you timing than the intake. The S.R. intake does provide better throttle response than the CAI, but doesn't get you the HP at high RPM's like the CAI does.

is there a way to disable the speed governor? and the timing.. can a noobie like myself adjust it?

now from what i have understood about ram and cai is just about the temp of air it is taking in.. since ram is still taking hot air from the engine area where as the cai is taking fresh air... now if i were to make air vents on the hood and sort of direct the fresh air to the ram would i get the same effect ?

Not without doing some ECU mocds or replacing it with a different one.

Yes! You need a timing light and a 12mm wrench. To get more power at high RPM's retard the timing (rotate the distributor clockwise). To get more power at low RPM, advance the timing (rotate the distributor counter-clockwise). This is only adjusting your ignition timing (not cam timing) but it should make enough of a difference for you to notice. I am also going under the assumption that you cam timing is set correctly. There's no way to adjust cam timing unless you have adjustable cam gears or feel like taking the timing belt off and moving it over a tooth or two on the cam gear. You shouldn't have to worry about cam timing unless you have some really serious mods done to your engine. Ingition timing however needs to be checked and adjusted regularly.

sort of...... The length of the pipe on CAI's also plays a part in what gives the HP at high RPM's. The air gains velocity as it travels through the CAI piping. Yes cooler air will help, but that's not the total solution.

o and yes there is a way to get rid of the govenor.....get an intake or do some bolt on's. once i got my intake the govenor ceased to exist

That won't get rid of the govenor. The ECU is in control of it and bolt-ons/intake have nothing to do with it.

                spacers

if i got some wheel spacers that would allow me to add wider tires<maybe> but main aim is to extend the tires out for better handling<theory>... do u thnk it will work? is it safe even to use spacers?

well as soon as i put my intake on i could get past 115. so yea "ceterous perebis", intake did the trick! o and alot of people have bypassed the govenor by bolt-on's......any explenation for that?

The govenor usually kicks in around 120-125 MPH. If you could only go 115 before, that's because of the intake/header/exhaust restrictons not allowing you to go any higher. Remove those restrictions and, walla, you can now go past 115. I guarantee you can't get it past 125-130 MPH even with all the bolt-ons in the world!

Don't put the spacers on. You'd be better off just getting some good ass tires.

lol if u read a thread entitled "how fast have you gotten your cb7?" i got mine over 130. and the govenor for a 1991 ex was 115 as so backed up by hpaccord, my local honda dealership and a few others cb7 members.

dude with those statements u just denied like most people with cb7's. the 115 is not bc of the restrictions, when the fuel cuts off, u can tell and that is supposed to be at 115 for the 1991 ex. if it were bc of restrictions, the car would bog down. when i hit the 115 point, i was flying, no bogging down just all of a sudden it would like jerk and when i let off the gas and get it down to 105 the fuel would kick back on.and there are like 20 cb7's that have gotten over 125 some of them stockers too. i guarentee if i had a higher speedo i coulda seen 140. research b4 u say our cars cannot go past 125-130. not being a dick just stating facts

If you read the same thread, you'd see that I had my 91 EX up to around 125 and the fuel cut did activate. There is a difference in some Accords that did not have the factory fuel cut. But all US and Canadian models did have the fuel cut. You cannot get past this without making changes to the ECU or replacing it with a modded one. You should do some research on this subject. I know what I'm talking about. Your speedo must be off or something becuase there is no way that the computer just "stopped activating the fuel cut for no apparent reason?!?!?!". It doesn't work like that. Ask some other members like MRX who regularly modify ECU's. They'll tell you the same damn thing that I've been trying to.

The speed govenor "aka-fuel cut" is set via the ECU. Despite what you think, you have not eliminated the speed govenor.

i know it is still "there" but it just doesn't umm well actually work. the day i put on my intake, was the day the govenor stopped cutting my fuel off at 115. that is the fact!! and i know several cb7's and many other cars in general that do the exact same thing. yes it is controlled by the ecu but it seems to me and many others that simple "bolt-on's" do infact somehow make the govenor "disappear". it doesn't take any research to know that this is true. when i learn this first hand not by one car or by two but over 20 cars. so unless all these cars just in my area are just lucky i guess all it does take is a few mods. btw i know the govenor is apart of the ecu, bc alot of chips can get rid of it. my point is that there are many instances of proof that bolt on's do infact (in most casses that i have seen) effect the govenor. and yes different models do have different speeds govenors. some are 115 some are higher. and unless i have experienced or had friends experience an issue i rarely if ever post about it. fyi
