    c27 woes.

I know this is for cb7's, but these questions go for any car really.

I'm working on I think a 90 legend with a c27. It has electronic advance and is an auto. The people who i'm working on the car for said that it runs, but it seems like the timing is off. So i go out and loosen the dizzy (which is only one bolt!) and see if i can wiggle it a little bit... there is no adjustmant on those things! I try to start it but it is just turning over and it seems like it's not getting any spark. I but the coil wire next to ground while someone else turned over the car and it was sparking. I swaped out the dizzy, but still nothing. It did start making a very quiet popping sound though. Maybe i just couldn't hear it before. It reminds me of when my pt3 computer died. The car spun over well, but didn't sound like the standard honda cranking sound. it had more whirring instead of chugging which turned out i wasn't getting any spark. That's the sound this c27 is making. I'm kinda stumped now as to what it could be.

I just took apart a c27 here at my house last night and i noticed a black box thingy that is mounted either behind or next to the cam shaft on the front head. I only noticed it cause it looked burnt. (that c27 has a blown connecting rod. )

    so any suggestoins?

Does it sound like the starter is spinning really fast? If this is the case, it will sound like this when there is no compression, i.e. the cylinders are washed out and the rings are stuck, or the timing belt is broken. If it was the t-belt, you wouldn't have spark either since the dist rotor isn't spinning.

I'm sure the timing belt is good cause i saw the cam moving. And yes the starter does sound rather fast. I'll bring my compression tester and see what i get. I checked the main relay and it appears to be good, but someone on the honda-acura.net place says he's sure that that is my problem. I guess i dissagree cause it seems that on the accord all that does is the fuel pump. But apparently it controls both the pump and the ecu on the legend. But i took it out anyway and looked at all the solder welds and they looked fantastic, and there was no burnt smell on the relay. So i'm confident it's not bad.. (i've fixed a few main relays so far so i know what to look for and how to fix them if they are bad)

and for a side note, i have an extra c27 that has a blown connecting rod, so i took out that blown piston and tried to put it in the f22. The c27 appears to have an 87mm bore as apposed to the 85mm bore on the f22 (dont know if bore is the right word, but i think it is) So that would mean if you over size the cylinders to 87mm then you could use those pistons..But they look the same as our pistons just 2mm bigger. I have yet to check on the connecting rods though. I'll do that soonly.

If the starter is spinning really fast like you described, this means there is little or no compression. The cylinders just may be washed down and the rings are stuck....I've seen this quite a few times on Hondas/Acuras. If this is the case, just keep cranking on it and it should eventually turn over. Let me know what you find out, I'm interested to know.

i did a compression test today and on the 4,5,6 cylinders i got 30, 0 , 25. so i stopped there and figured that it is the rings.

The rings are probably just stuck, try running some ATF thru it to loosen them up.

i thought that meant you had to change the rings... do i just poor some atf down the cylinders and let er crank up. what would be a better solution, a more permanant one.

What I'm saying is that the rings just may be stuck, not worn down. Pouring a little ATF in the cylinders lossens them up so they can pop back into place.
