    Engine Won't Manually Turn Over?

Just got off the phone with the guy working on my car. He said that when he attempted to manually turn the engine over with a wrench, it would not budge at all. He said it should move freely.

He is beginning the process of a teardown to see if he can figure out what's wrong. I don't know much about engine work, so Im checking if anyone on here know's what it could be. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the JDM F20A SOHC.

Was the car running when you took it to him? Why is he working on it?

No, the car was not running. The crankshaft in my old engine was bad... so I bought the JDM F20A at a shop to replace it. The JDM engine is suppose to be used w/ about 40,000 miles on it. I bought the engine over a year ago. He's was just now getting ready to put it in.

Did this engine sit outside in that year and could water have gotten into the engine if it did? It might have seized.

You could put some "Marvel Mystery Oil" in each of the cylinders to help loosen it up and get it to rotate.

Did the guy take out the spark plugs when trying to rotate it with a wrench? After a year of sitting it just may need more persuasion to get it to go again.

Last but not least, whom did you buy this engine from? It could of been bad from the beginning. If your going to buy a used anything, with a warranty I hope, you want to install it ASAP to see if all is good.

Is it common practice to buy a used engine & just swap it in without verifying if it works or maybe tear it down to check it & replace the necessary?
