Transmission or Torque Converter problem?

Ok this is happening to my friend with his 96 integra LS auto.
Here is the problem, The car used to rev up and not go anywhere and we both thought it was a transmission problem. Now the car has been sitting there for a couple months and now for some strange reason the car actually catches the gears and moves fine until you start driving it hard. When you drive it hard it feels like the transmission is slipping, it revs but dont move.

What could be the problem? Transmission or torque converter?

Sounds like bands in the tranny, I'd suggest a fluid and filter change and ask for a manual flush not a machine flush than see what kindof material your getting in the fluid, black crumblely shit = bands and other mechanicals going to shit = time for a new tranny.
