    odd exhuast sound

    Ok,

So here's the situation. I've noticed while I was driving that my exhuast sounds really loud...like I have a 2.5" mulffler going on here...(it's a stock LX 92 exhaust btw). It's not always loud, it idles great. It get's really loud ESP. when I take my foot off the gas and the engine decels (it's a 5spd). I know there is lifter tick which means the valves need to be adjuststed...is this a serious problem? I've noticed that above 4k rpm the loud exhuast noise seems to go away, but I can't tell if it's beause the engine is making more noise or what. The extra loud noise isn't there all the time (except during engine decel). It seems pretty ok without load (ie. with clutch in, just light revving to about 3k).

Any one have any ideas? Perhaps bad mufler? My opinion is that the valves need to be adjusted, but I dont quite have the $$ nor the time for that at this exact moment? Is this something I should seroiusly be worried about?

    Thanks for input.

Ok...it just sounds SUPER loud compared to what it normally does. Like I said, it sounds like a ricer burner, esp. on decel rpms.

        Thanks for everyones input.

As far as making a recording goes, I dont really have any recording equipment, but if I find some i'll get on it.

You might have a tiny hole or slightly leaking gasket somwhere.

              got 'cha

I had the same problem when I had my resonator removed with a custom exuast 9he said it would increase hp... bs. so i went to a muffler shop, got a high flow resonator and had it welded in mid way from the header to the first bend before the muffler. it did not wuiet the exaust, but rather mellowed out the note so it wasnt raspy. and it solved the weird hard to explain ratty, metal like, hard to check for sound.

alot of exaust sound like that mine is louder at lower rpms and when u get up to like 80mph and up the engine and exhaust is lower less power the power is there but leveled out and not pushing anymore so that makes the exuast lower and maybe your baffles in the muffler arebad maybe or commen problem a gasket is leaking nere the resonater or cat converter and that would be a donut gasket in the inside of the cat on the edges
