little confused what piece is needed for A/C

    Hi,

I need to charge my A/C unit and I believe I need to get the conversion kit as well....

I probably wont do this until the spring, but can someone tell me what I would need here? I'm having my mechanic do it in his shop.

    Thank you very much.

If you're having your mechanic do it, then you won't need to buy anything. If you're doing it yourself, than a kit will be all you need.

        hmm....

i "assumed" it would be less expensive to buy the parts and have him do it....

ok, what is a fair amount to have any mechanic add the adapter piece and charge the a/c?

        thanks.

It may be less expensive. It would be even less expensive to do it yourself, which is what I recommend. It's probably the easiest thing to do to your car besides wash it. You just put on the new line adapters and fill it up.

uhm...ok, i think i can handle it then

then the piece(s) that i have to order has to include some gauges i believe?

that link on top has other kits, one of which has some additional items...

              nevermind, i found it....

lots of "how to" on adding the retrokit and turning on the valve....

              seems simple....

youll need to pull vacuum on the system to get all the air/freon out, i would suggest taking it to a mechanic.

Ideally, you also want to find the leak that caused the A/C to stop in the first place. These are closed systems. They don't need refilling unless there's a problem or it was intentionally taken apart. A/C systems that have been open a while are also susceptible to internal corrosion ... just letting you know what you may be in for.

also, if the dryer has been exposed to atmoshpere it will need to be replaced.
