    vtec.. no vtec ??

drove the car the last sunday and noticed something strange. i was easing out of first and decided to hit WOT.. as the revs climbed up, i realized vtec engagement did not open up @ 4800 rpms(chipped p28) and continued without so. got to the next light, granny-shifted into 2nd and went WOT again and while looking at the rpms, it hit 4800 and vtec engaged.. BUT it had a hesistation.
i checked for CELs and none whatsoever. when i looked into the engine bay, i saw some oil stains topside of the tranny, wiring harness and traced it back to the vtec valve assembly. just got to ordering the replacement spool valve filter so hopefully that should fix the problem.

is there anything else that might be causing this to happen ?

id reseal up the vtec solenoid/valve assy and also the distributor, make sure its clean of oil... it might be something strangly related to oil pressure or something, i dont know.. does it happen like you said EVERY time you go WOT? or just something that seems to happen every so often?

got to drive the car today.. what i've noticed is when i go WOT in 1st gear, no vtec; it just revs to 7-8k rpms w/o vtec coz i don't hear it opening up.. and only in 1st gear
i did change the dizzy o-ring about a month ago and no leaks from there. but i am waiting for the vtec solenoid filter and spool valve to arrive and once that gets here, i'll clean and reseal the entire assembly.
