Did you run OUT of gas? Maybe you were low, just not low enough for the light to kick in... Its pretty crazy if you use that light so many times that the bulb burns out, mines only kicked in once the whole time I have had the car... lol

This problem happens to me as well on my 91 EX. The light that tells you that you have your brights on doesn't come on as well. How do I go about changing these bulbs?

Before you rip out your dash, there is a test for the light circuit. It's most likely a bad low-fuel sending unit located in the gas tank. It is seperate from the fuel level float. Mine went bad on my 93 EX. BTW, though it *could* be a bad bulb, it most likely is not since it is one of the least-used bulb on the cluster that doesn't even turn on for a light-test. The bulb test is in the SM. You basically short two of the three pins on the plug under that little silver cover in above the gas tank in the trunk. Wait 15 seconds and see if the light comes on when the ignition is in pos. II.

I think it's about on the E line, but the light doesn't come on until I only have a few miles left in fuel.

where did you learn that? its not a diode, its a normal 74 bulb. its a bulb in both the Denso and NS clusters.

your gas light should come on when u have approximatly 3 gallons left in your tank. cb7's hold 17 gallons give or take (.1) gallon. when your "empty" u fill it and it takes 14 gallons, thats becuase when your "empty" you really have 3 gallons still in the tank, honda gives you that reserve. i have found all this out on my own experiances. and for the record all cb7 guages (usdm) use bulbs not diodes, should be the same for jdm,edm clusters etc.

not trying to be argumentative or anything, just want to have accurate information out there on the net: but for the record, gas light coming on means there is 2.11 gal remaining, not 3. my gas gauge never worked, so when the light comes on i usually estimate 40 miles till empty, and thats playing it a bit safe.

yea thats why i said approximatly, becuase it will differ a bit for everyone. for me it was exactly 2.85 gallons left (after i averaged it), thats why i rounded it to 3. but for others it will be differant, all depends on condition of motor, how quick you get to a gas station, all that good stuff. but i actually ran my car out of gas by accident becuase i had no working guages becuase of fucked up indiglos (long story) but anyway it took 17 gallons to fill it up. but yea mike your numbers are on point, im not gonna argue with that, as a matter of fact you brought up a good point. and for the record i let my gas light come on 10 straight times and averaged out all the totals and came up with 2.85 gallons.

A dead low fuel light is less common than a bad fuel sending unit. Dealership ran a test on mine and came up with that conclusion since they said the light works. I believe they did the test xaxis360 mentioned. I haven't had a replacement, as the gauge still seems correct and sometimes the light does light up.
