my cars idle is weird. from time to time it will jump from abotu 750 to 1500 and then drop. then jump again and drop. and it will do this alot. what could this be?

a couple of things like wait a minute has your car shot off a code yet. Try to run a self diagnostic on your car. it could be a vacuum leak,bad tps, or bad iacv perhaps dirty , bubbles in the coolant in the lines. Or a bad ecu but i doubt its a bad ecu. -
It's either the fast idle valve or the EACV that is causing the idle to fluctuate. Most of the time it is simply that there is a small coolant leak that is lowering the coolant level to below the Fast Idle Valve. My engine started doing it after I put the Vigor throttle body on, which has larger idle circuits. So I had to adjust the Idle screw ALL the way down. check out the EGR valve un plug it for a few days and see if it stopsComment

My car did that about a year ago. It was an bad idle contol valve. Had to get it replaced. I tried to just clean it out, but it still kept jumping up and down. Try to clean out the ICV, throttle body, and other related parts first.Last edited by XLR Azn; 02-18-2004, 10:10 PM.
