    Automatic Transmission question

I have a AUTO and in 4th gear it shifts up and down. Could it be that I need to change the filter or is the tranny going out. Help me out.

You could try changing the fluid. HONDA ATF ONLY!.

Listing mileage can denote something, but I'm not sure if we have AT filters. I have about 83k and only done fluid drain/refill. Smoothe enough for me.

I was under the impression that the automatics have 4 speed transmissions with electronic (or maybe automatic?) overdive. I'm not sure how it works, but I guess it has to 'shift' to engage OD. I know it does on my brothers 93EX.

Let me get this stright... your car's automatic is in D4 but the tranny shifts itself up and down while cruising at a steady speed

Please help us help you by trying to explain it a little more detailed and more clearly

My buddies started doing that about a month ago. Now it doesn't even engage in gear at all from park. It acts like it is in neutral when it is in drive. I'm not sure if that is going to happen to yours but it might. I think that it might just be going bad. I mean it does have over 200,000 miles on it right. Its probably time for a new one.

Maybe he means it just shifts a lot when driving around town under even the littlest throttle blips. If that's the case, that's normal, because it's a piece of shit fuel saving tranny. Always hunting between 3rd and 4th if you're going between 30-45mph.
