how much does it cost to replace a windshield?

after slamming on my brakes on the highway yesterday my windshield has a pretty big spider crack in it, i guess from stress?...how much does it generally cost to replace the windshield? the insurance deducatable is $200

why go through your insurance? after you do that, your monthly premium will increase at the next adjustment.

btw, call a local windshield repair place and ask them. it could range from $100-$300.

hmm i dont know if the rate will increase...my mom used to work for statefarm and has 4 cars under their insurance, she knows like everyone there...i only have liability but we have some special protection which covers hail, windshield damage, shit like that

if your insurance is like mine.....you get one free widshield replacement per year. even if its a tiny nick from a pebble. if not youll end up paying more in the end. do what el said.

just because your mom works at state farm doesn't mean anything. she may know the ins and outs, but you don't get a lower rate because you know somebody. trust me, my dad's been an underwriter for state farm for over 30 years.

if you only have liability, you really shouldn't go through your insurance.

I'm being charged $120 w/o taxes to change my windshield in NYC. The Honda dealership wants $300. Glass is glass though right? I guess it differs in what adhesive they use

No, thats becase half of the places that replace windshields still charge you up front for two windshields incase they break one.

This is one of the most annoying things about my CB7. When it's cold outside and I drive it, the adhesive at the top sounds as if it's coming apart and makes loud squeaks but there's no leak.

My advice is to go to some place that's established and get a guarantee against crap like that, that may only be discovered months later.

I'm on my 3rd windshield (first replacement was from a crack, second was from a crackhead).
