    Automatic Transmission Computer

    Hey there everybody.

Recently I was driving around town and my transmission jumped. '92 LX auto with 188,xxx miles on it. I was crusing near 30mph when the RPMs spiked twice and then my D4 light went out. When I came to a stop and tried to go again, I had very little acceleration. It was like I was in fourth gear and without a clutch. When I parked the D4 light stayed on and it seemed like my shifter stolinoid wasn't working. I brought it to the local Honda dealer/service and they said I need a new automatic transmission computer.

They gave me an estimate of $733 installed. Any thoughts on where to go from here?

    Thanks!

Nice that you got a free diagnosis, but that part isn't worth that much. Sometimes those are listed for sale here; search for TCU* (the * acts as a wildcard character necessary for making the search term a minimum of 4 characters ... sigh)

Or try a junkyard or eBay.

There is a way to open up the tcu and replace the fried resistor if you are so inclined.... I had the same exact problem and opened the comp up and saw that there was a burnt resistor, went to radioshack and bought the matching ones (colors have to match) and it has worked for the past 4 months now with no problems...
