    Idle bouncing...

Ok, I ran a rearch on "idle problems'' and all I can find are threads of people who asked about a problem and a few random people posted stuff, and the problem either never got fixed or the thread died. I am running a new F22A4 in my LX, and all the sensors on the IM are supposedly in great working condition, or just new. My idle is high at cold start (about 2-2.5k is sounds like) and it idles solidly. It's after the engine fast idles and warms up that the fun starts. The idle drops off from fast idle like it usually does, until normal idle is reached, and then it revs again back to fast idle and promptly drops again (about one rev per second). My CEL is on, but only for VSS. This is the third engine I've put in my car, and the first one of which I have used the suplied IM, rather than using the same IM off my original engine. (I usually only swap long blocks, and keep my original IM/EM) I've swapped my IACV from my old IM to the new one, and no luck. I'm not sure what's causing it, I'm assuming the FICV, but not sure. A friend's car is doing this too, and he can't fix it either. Everybody I've asked says "...my Civic used to do that, change the TPS sensor..." Anyone know for sure??

I hate to do exactly as you said you weren't looking for, but it sounds like a classic vacuum leak to me.

I had a problem like this in my Accord after installing a CAI. My friend took a look at my car, unplugged and replugged the MAP sensor, and it ran fine. Just make sure to restart your car after replugging in the MAP sensor, otherwise you won't be able go fast at all.

Don't know if this will fix your problem, but it's worth a shot.

The first thing I would do is replace your VSS. Mine was throwing a CEL and I was also having a problem with my idle. When I replaced the VSS, the idle problem disappeared. I don't think I was having the same idle issue as you but you should replace your VSS (since it's throwing a CEL anyway) and see if that fixes it. If not, it will at least eliminate that as an issue.

Well, I replaced my FICV, and noticed when I pulled the "new" one off my car, that only the upper hose (the one going from the FICV to the IACV) had coolant in it. The lower hose and outlet on the FICV was bone dry, as if it weren't letting coolant through. The coolant was warm enough to open the FICV, because I had just taken a trip to Nashville and back and my heater was HOT. Anyway, with the FICV replaced I noticed now that the engine still idles like this: rev, rev, rev, rev, rev.....instead of the reeeev, reeeeeev, reeeeev, like it was doing. My o2 sensor is jacked up now and isn't functioning properly at all. I know that no o2 sensor WILL cause the car to idle with short, quick 500 RPM or so revs, like it revs up twice every second its so quick. I'm gonna put in a new o2 sensor and hopefully I'll have fixed it.
