    Absolutely No power sometimes

Car is a 92 EX auto and The engine burns oil but still runs ok.
The problem is That on some days The car will run great and move well but on some days this problem will occur, The car will have absolutely no power. I mean when you have the gas to the floor it wont move or it will move very slowly. When I have the gas to the floor the rpm goes up a couple hundred and thats it the car still dosent move.
The only thing That I do to help a little is put it in neutral and rev the engine and then back into drive. That works sometimes.
    What could be the problem.

Hmm, thats a doosey... Is it throwing a Check Engine Light (CEL)? Try shorting the blue connector under the glovebox (I don't remember what that is called) and see if you get any error codes on the CEL.

My parents 97 Aerostar recently had a problem very similar to this, and it ended up being a bad O2 sensor... That was it and the thing just sometimes had NO power at all. A bad O2 sensor should throw a CEL though I would think...

I guess you could test this by putting it in neutral and see if you can rev normally, see if it has any trouble. See if it sputters at all.

      Good luck!

Somethings not right for it to run great one day, then the next its powerless, when its powerless where are the rpm's at?

I am not getting any CEL's and the light works. I did a tune up october/05. I dunno if its timing but I have to check that out. Also I dont drop it in gear after I rev it, but rev it up and then when its back at idle then put it in gear.

And Its powerless at around 1200 rpm. The engine feels likes its struggling to move. It dosent cut off or anything. Could the transmission be a cause of this? Could it be that the transmission is in 4th gear sometimes and thats why it dosent want to move?

Put in in park and rev it up see how the engine feels to help isolate the problem, also if its arouns 1,200rpm its not going to make to much power anyways.

the engine feels great when I rev it up in park. Rev's quick and dosent hesitate, But only when its in drive it does that.

Maybe you got a messed up throttle cable...?

What is it like when you manually select 1st Gear??
Sounds like a Tranny Problem, taking off in top gear????
As wrichards said - Check the Transmission Shift Throttle Cable. Cable Goes from throttle body to transmission lever. This cable controls the transmission shift pressures on acceleration.
Bridge Out the Service Connector and Check the Green "S" Light for codes.
The CEL will not reveal Tranny Problems.
Refer to the Workshop Manual for Codes.
