    weird vent smell

hey. it seems like whenever i use my heater now a gassy kind of engine smell comes out of my vents. it's really not just my heater i'm pretty sure that it is whenever i have the fan on. but this smell only happens when i have the fresh air button on and not the recirculate one. i'm a novice here but i'm thinking maybe it has something to do with my air filter or something. i should probably get this checked out quick because i'm sure those vapors aren't good for my brain.

Let me ask you something. can you smell this when you stand outside IN FRONT of your car while its running?I have this problem as well. That "gassy" smell is probably not gas, but exhaust fumes. Get your exhaust from the manifold back checked out. Its possible to have a tiny leak but no noise

I have this same problem but I have a cracked exhaust manifold. I am guessing you have an exhaust leak up front as well that you may not be aware of.

hahaha..just had to laugh at that but you might want to check for leaks under the hood ie oil, gas, etc.

I vote for exhaust gasket leak, or cracked manifold...

The one I really like is when a Pilot or Odyssey comes in with a chewed through knock sensor wire, a wierd vent smell, and a blower motor noise...can anyone guess what it might be??

Centrifuged-rodent...not a pleasant thing...that's what they get for chewing up knock sensors...grrr....yeah, sorry....that was all I had to input.....

Yeah, I know that smell all too well. I have the exact same car and i like the tinted windows on yours... anyways, I would smell that at traffic lights too. My prob was the smell of hot engine oil hitting a hot A pipe. Sometimes is smelled like oil.. sometimes it smelled like gas. I thought it was the oil pan gasket as it usually is, but it turned out to be the main crankshaft seal.... $600 in labor ($2.13 for the seal) later, no more smells. I would definately check the oil pan gasket first. Being from Kansas, I doubt you have a rusted out exhaust manifold. Make sure your PCV valve and breather hoses are connected. I left mine off once and it smelled like crazy.

Why not just put it on RECIRCULATE?

If it's a fishy or faul smell, why don't you turn on the ac and spray some fabreze through the outside vents. Should help.
