    Power steering problem

Changed the alternator and had some problems with the belts being tight. Loosened the alternator belt and slapped everything else back together. I go to turn the wheel and the power steering belt slows and starts squeling.

    fyi
I completely removed the power steering pump during alternator change.
currently there was enough fliud in the reservior.
what i haven't checked is whether the car will turn without power steering.

    help.

Sounds like the belt is too loose. Tighten it up a bit and it should be fine.

On a tangent, Corey, the accessory belts you did when you switched out that tranny still squeal on a cold startup, even after I've loosened the PS belt some. Is this indicative of something else?

Why did you loosen them, that will just make it worse. If they squeal, it means the belts have stretched and are too loose. Either that or its because we used those cheap Autozone accessory belts. (don't worry, the timing belt I put in there was OEM at least)

ok. so squealing belts = too tight or too loose?

i'm thinking i should have tightened them to hell since that how they where when i took them off.

currently the alternator belt is very loose but no squealing. the ps belt on the other hand is loose and squels when the wheel it turned.
be damned if the biggest problem I have is with drive belts.
