    Overheating/Flush!!????

    Hey people!

I already went over this with you guys about my car over heating. but what i think maybe that there is a air pocket or something in my engine. so i wanted to do a very good flush... and just redo my coolant and clean everything out really, really good and make sure there isnt no air pockets or anything clogged in my coolant system or engine or anywere... Can anyone give me the best thing to do?

To flush the coolant, you just drain it (AFTER IT IS COOLED DOWN). Please drain it into a catch can and not a sewer. Then you can fill it up with water, run the car for a minute, and drain that. Then refil with a mixture of 50/50 water/antifreeze.

ya my head gasket is good there is nothing wrong with it. its just like i explained before. my fan doesnt turn on while am driving it. it turns on after. and then on top of that the holes that goes from the thermostat to the bottom of the radiator stays cool. doesnt get as hot as the one that goes from the radiatior to the engine. so am thinking its clogged somewere and isnt geting to the sensor and isnt making it turn on at the right time.

might as well replace the thermostat before u flush and bleed the coolant out. that may be the cause of your problem as well, and will help avoid having to flush out the coolant a second time if it is.

first off,,,,,,pressure test system make sure you got no leaks, test radiator cap as well.....if ok,, replace t-stat as it was suggested by PRIMO.if when engine is warmed up and the lower radiator hose is cool and top hose is hot you got a stuck closed t-stat or a water pump with corroded fins... I would do a t-stat ,,,.........Now ,, you do know that BOTH fans are suppose to come on when engine is hot right ??? if only 1 works when engine is running and hot , you got an issue with that fan system,,,, ,,,,,,,

do a t-stat and let us know .,, make sure you loosen up the bleeder screw at t-stat housing when you are all done and filling radiator, when only coolant comes out ( no air bubbles) tighten the screw ..start car up..and you are done ,,,

i changed the thermostat twice. and still. the fan turns on after i turn the car on. not while am driving it. it doesnt turn on at all when am driving it. everything started when i changed the thermolstat and did a ghetto flush.. this is the story here..

                1. For some reason I'm going to suggest running the car with no thermostat. That's right take it out.
2 Make sure to bleed the system as stated above.
                3. I'm not saying your doing it wrong... BUT, do you know there is a very specific way the thermostat gets installed?

I'm not real sure #3 is the problem. Just tossing around some thoughts.

Well since you said you change t-stat twice i dont think they will give you a bad one a second time if the first one was bad unless its staying closed? Id do no thermostat first if your gonna flush if that takes away the prob thats your prob. If not then you can have a clogged radiator etc etc. But yea pressure testing is a good idea too.

well you can fill the radiator with water and pressurize it and check for leaks. Or fill it with pressurized air and drop it in a tub and check for air bubbles. Or just go to autozone im pretty sure you can rent a radiator pressure check test kit......
